Looks like I will be in Chamonix from Dec 15th but have to work a couple of days looking to ski from Thurs 17 until
Sun 20th .... Anyone around who want's to get ski legs in for a few days?

On the way back from Tignes, I needed to divert via Gressoney. Passing through Chamonix tonight/tomorrow: seems a shame to skip through without doing a run or 3.

@under a new name, it's totally random, the LH bus goes to Le Praz, the Le Tour bus goes to Les Bossions. Mrs Jbob used the thro bus last winter, I'll stick with the car

Not only do you have to change at Cham Sud, but they haven't even lined up the timetables so the first bus from Les Houches in the morning means a 30 minut wait at Cham Sud (unless I'm working it out wrongly...)
Oh, OK, maybe not quite so bad, looks like they've lined up the express buses to link a little better, e.g. line-1 from Les Houches links OK with the Le Tour express line-12 and there's a Prarion-Grepon express as well.
Doesn't seem particularly well optimised to me, but there you go.

@snowcrazy, there's a Geneva offer on at the minute for a season MBU pass for @960eur (depending on exchange rate), but only available for another 3 and half days or so, if it's any use to anyone? Pass can be picked up locally.

Can any one suggest some single accommodation in central Chamonix from around the 9th to 12th Jan ? I'm doing the EMS mountain safety training. The suggested hotels are pricing single rooms 'imaginatively' !
Otherwise, I may book a package for myself and Mrs AAT. Would any of you guys be up for skiing with her on the days I'm doing the course. She ski's well, but isn't so much into off piste, but will dabble.

This is a Hostal close the MBC pub. I think they charge around 20 euros a night. It a short walk into town, but is in a quiet area and is clean, and friendly. How long will you be in town?

Cheers guys. I'll check those out. I'm prob out 9th to 16th Jan and should have a couple of free ski days before the course kicks off.
Think I should be OK for kit all being well, but will let you know should anything unexpected crop up.

Staying in Chamonix 18th-26th december @ the Chamoniard Volant hostel
Skiied piste all of my life (23y) but the last few years Ive tried to venture into off-piste, dont really have any extra hardcore gear with me except skiis. Would be nice to ski vallee blanche but doubt theres enough snow during xmas?

@Gustaf, hi and welcome to snowheads.
I'm not around until after the new year, not sure who might be. I doubt the VB will be safe, I know a couple of guides skied down a few days ago to see what it was like, and the snow cover and especially the snow bridges were poor. A friend skinned up the top section of Grand Montets and also said many of the crevasses were open.

@MadMountainMan, that's a pity, I'm only there until 16 Jan this season, so it looks like we'll miss each other.
Looks like I picked a good year to not do a full season. For the past few weeks, I've been eyeing my surfboard and wetsuit thinking that climate change and rising sea levels means no shortage of waves. Perhaps I should be thinking of doing surfing seasons rather than skiing seasons
