Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val T, Les M, St M - large rock blocking the main route-long delays and emergency shelters set up

@genepi, OMG, yes I see them, I think they are waving cheerfully. No, wait, maybe not!!!

Interesting picture though, all those vehicles are nose to tail and two abreast. That must make for an absolutely colossal extra load on the viaduct. One supposes that the engineers must have factored this is when they designed the structure. They must have been thinking, we must allow for thousands of cars regularly getting stuck on our new viaduct. And they were right unfortunately!!

@andy1234, It will be have been designed for all sorts of combinations including full lanes of trucks all braking at the same time etc. which would dwarf the load you see there. When you are working under something like that and there is a slow moving stop / start queue of traffic the movement in the structure as everyone brakes at once is quite "interesting" until you get used to it.

We landed at Chambery yesterday at 6pm, slight delay due to a bunch of idiots causing trouble on the flight, police arrested them on landing!
We didnt know anything about the Boulder until then Shocked anyway by then the roads were gridlocked and the TO decided rather than leave is on a coach all night (other guests spent 11 hours on a coach) they'd treat us to macdonalds and a hotel for the night, 1 guest kicked off but everyone else accepted it was the easiest and probably the best option for us, hotel was nice, bar was open and we left the hotel at 7.30 this morning arriving in meribel about 9.30, so think we got off lightly considering!

@feefee, Sounds like an inspired decision - go on name the Company - a bit of positive news wouldn't go amiss! As for the clown that kicked off - there really is no hope.

And to add insult to injury there has been a problem with a TGV at Moutiers this afternoon - so trains to Bourg are between 1 hr and 4 hours late.

We are with Inghams 😄,
he kicked off as he he didn't want an effing macdonalds! He was so rude and swore at the rep, made himself look a complete prick! needless to say we would all have preferred a nice restaurant but there wasn't much chance of getting a coachful into a restaurant last minute, especially as we weren't the only bus load!!
All in all we probably missed an hour or so on the slopes this morning, and for us missed an evening with our son who's working in resort, hence our visit!

Hello all,
i Have just returned from Val Thorens and luckily my group didnt have to suffer any extra time on a bus,
What i can say is a HUGE thankyou to SkiTotal they made the fantastic choice that instead of trying to rush us down the mountain at the first opportunity and risk us been sat in an airport for hours on end. They informed us at 10am on saterday(transfer day) we would stay an extra night and therefore could enjoy anuther day in resort (perfect slope conditions) so a great big Thank you to SKITOTAL fantastic customer service

Boulder, what boulder?! What you need is an insane taxi driver and you'll be in resort just an hour after expected.

We hit the back of the traffic just short of Albertville at which point our driver took to the back roads. About half way to Moutiers we encountered a police road block where they were directing everyone traveling to a resort back onto the stationary autoroute. Our driver, having told the policeman, "Meribel", was pointed towards the queue to get onto said autoroute. He slowly rolled forward and then buried the accelerator pedal and raced off down the back road which we'd been on with shouts from the police disappearing in the distance. Obviously concerned that they might hop into their car and give chase, he really went for it for about 5 minutes before slowing to usual taxi driver speeds. Quite exhilarating we thought!

Then we spotted the next police road block. This time, the policeman didn't need to ask where we were going, he poked his head in the window and asked, "Meribel?", followed by a, "Je suis desolee". Quite generous of him we thought, since he clearly knew exactly what our driver had done. So, we rolled gently forward to pull a u-turn around his female colleague who is blocking traffic from another direction, and... yup, foot to the floor again and off we go at the speed of light!

By this point, we guessed that our driver knew he'd not get away with it a third time, so at the next junction he got back onto the autoroute, just short of the bit where they have the traffic lights on the gantry to control traffic flow. Things were actually rolling along rather than stationary, so we were through the lights quite quickly and at the first junction for Moutiers, which had been coned off, he drove through a gap in the cones. Heck, after running 2 police roadblocks, what's a coned off slip road?

Not that I'd condone such behaviour of course, but we did give him a generous tip for getting us to our chalet by 1pm, so that we could use the lift passes we'd ordered to start on Saturday. A journey I'll never forget.

The sensible thing to do was to take the train between Albertville and Moutiers, and pick up a new taxi on the other side. Particularly if your transfer driver was running short of hours...

He tried to turn down some of the tip but i suggested that the gendarmerie may be after a share.

The moderately boring bit was the alternative route from moutiers to brides les bains. No running police road blocks just driving inches from certain death at his standard pace on the narrowest 2 lane road I've ever been on. Getting into the final climb to meribel was positively relaxing.
