@thecramps, actually, remarkably less painfull than I expected. Getting the wedding ring off however was a little nippy. Cue amused comments from wife.
Dropped a 40" monitor screen on reset dislocated knuckle this afternoon. I would prefer not to do that again in any sort of hurry.

[quote="under a new name"]@thecramps, screws in metacarpal, pins in 5th, dislocated 4th...somewhat stiff in the wrong way. If I stay off planks next couple of weeks O reckon I'll be good by the.
If I fall on it now and damage the screwed bone, I'm out for the season.
Gratuitous injury porn:
Not sure why, but when I read this, just following from your previous post and looking at the images (ouch)
I read it as Gratuitous porn injury. Would explain a lot being your hand.

Still, could've been worse...you could have dropped it on your toe (byebye season).

@thecramps, sadly not at that moment. I didn't actually , thank feck, drop the thing on my hand, but I just, as I was leaning it on its friends against a wall, let it go ever so slightly too soon. The sort if thing that in normal circumstances wouldn't be even noticed. Made me realise just why I wasn't planning skiing this weekend. Or next
@bluestrobe, titter.

Slightly confused on returning to this thread after a couple of days off, to find it is now about metacarpals, whatever those are anyway I was going to say that I have received an email from Telemorgins, the lift company for the southern half of the "Swiss side", telling me that pass prices have been reduced. I see that @msej449 has already mentioned this but suggests it is for the "Swiss only", I would be interested to hear why you think that, since as far as I am aware the same prices apply to everyone.
Of course it only applies if you buy your pass in Switzerland but surely that's the point - it counters the discouragement to holiday there. It is also cheaper if you live there of course, but that's just the benefit of a strong currency. It contrasts with the French approach to falling sales, which is usually to put the price up.

I nearly booked Davis for my next trip but decided for another week in France. I just checked and paying for the holiday now would have been an extra 20% more expensive even against the Australian Dollar. The small tourist businesses must be really feeling it with no more bookings.

@sanman,
It's only cheaper if the Swiss Franc is your currency, not if you have to buy Swiss Francs with a foreign currency.

@bluestrobe, I just thought about what you said. My mind has disappeared off into a whole fantasy island of situations in which I could have done this damage, while being lovingly attended to by pert "adult" starlettes. I'm just glad my wife can't always read my mind.

I quite like this strong CHF idea. I had a very cheap day in Les Gets today. Swiss resorts gonna lose out big time until things adjust.

Basic black coffee today on the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil was CHF3.80 - which is only just under £3.
Expensive compared to last week in Italy where it was generally €1 - or €1.50 (£1.15) in the expensive places.

Sainsburys didn't change their rates in time last week. Managed to get 640 francs for £430. Pretty chuffed with myself.
Going to France via Geneva. Anyone know what the exchange rates are like inside the airport? Franc > Euro. Not too much of a rip off I hope.
Should be quids in regardless.
Cheers.

@RobW,
Isn't the price of coffee regulated by law in Italy?

@irie, the point is that your pass is cheaper than it was, so you don't have to buy as much foreign currency to buy it with, so the movement in the exchange rate is nullified.
The pass isn't "cheaper" overall, no, but it should be the same. If you are Swiss then yes, it is cheaper but as I said, that's their payback for living in Switzerland, and having no sense of humour

Wow, those are some seriously shitty rates.
CHF is almost at parity with the Euro at the moment. Getting 515 euros for 630 CHF is criminal.. That's a fee of over 100 euros. Are you sure your maths is right?
Edit: Just did it myself on their site.. That's what they're claiming. Madness. I'm wondering if their site is just slow to update or something. It does say 'indicative price'. I've popped them an email.
Wondering what will happen after Thursday. The ECB will either announce QE, or announce they're not doing QE. Either way, the price will likely move.

What about just using your UK Debit card in the UBS ATMs at Geneva Airport? I recall you can get either € or CHF. I've done this is the past and it's worked well. Might be worth checking with your bank to see what sort of premium you pay on debit card cash in switzerland .....

@Frankeh, yep, but it's a lot better than 4 or 5 years ago when GBP and EUR were close to parity
nice for me on an upcoming trip is the fact that the price for a beer in Norway has gone down from about £10 to a mere £7 since I first went there

If you look at a graph of the £ to CHF exchange since Jan 15th when the CHF link to the Euro was broken, the £ has recovered more than half of the original "cliff edge" drop and in fact is about the same level as it was two years ago.

@Alastair Pink, I think it's about the same as it was this time last year. About 7-8% down from its January highpoint. Also the supermarkets have reduced prices by 15-30% across a wide range of goods imported from the eurozone, so there are some things that are better value now.

Just converted some holiday money and was moderately pleased to get just over 1.41 CHF to the pouund, which is not a lot lower than when the Swiss bankers removed the Euro peg. Obviously, sterling has done quite well to recover from around 1.29 immediately after the peg was removed. Looking forward to the snow now!

Nationwide debit card 1.46CHF to £1. Pretty much the same as this time last year. 50cl beer in Hotel Regina Murren CHF 4.80. 24 x 50 cl Budvar Budweiser CHF19.95 in local supermarket.

Thats not bad, we were 6.50chf for a large beer in Les Croset which still worked out cheaper than the equivalent in France.
