Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Can anyone suggest where to go for a weekend 10th December. Flights are already booked to Geneva, so some resonably close by car or train to there?

Not many places open that week, so you're limited to the higher resorts. Val d'Isere/Tignes would be one option, and would also give you the chance to see some of the Men's Downhill and Combined events. It's not particularly close (around three hours by car), but should be snowsure.

nigels, La Rosiere opens on the 10th Dec., hopefully, but even if it doesn't you can get to anywhere in the Haute Tarentaise within 40 minutes. Have a look at our ad in snowShops or go to www.tracksvacations.com for full details.

Does anyone know whether Chamonix is open by then?

Dan, see how right you were!

nigels, AFAIK, Chamonix will open when there's snow. I don't know their expected date. Verbier, (cue other thread) is stating 19 Nov. Last year there was one run open there 12 Dec.

We will be in Val d'Isere that weekend on the grounds that even if it doesn't snow between now and then the Tignes glacier will be open.

From their website bits of Cham open early Dec. Staggering bad translation "Increase of Flégère closed. Next opening for the season of ski in December. Brévent opening of October 22 at November 02. Thank you for your visit"

Graviteski thanks for the offer. We will watch the snow reports and see closer to the time. As a matter of interest, what date the lift open last year there?

nigels, i've been to Sauze on the 5th December and had fantastic snow right down to the village - it's hit or miss, wait till you know where the snow is going, you'll have chalets owners etc bitting your hand off to stay with them as they wont be anywhere near fully occupied!

We had some snow in October, but no open lifts. Then again on the 17th Dec the day before the lifts were due to open - luckily! But the season was pushed way back last year as we had stacks of snow in April - the best of the season and the lifts closed when the pistes were still skiable on the 30th April - so frustrating!

It has snowed here in November in other years and they have opened the lifts early at weekends. The locals reckon it's coming again this November - something to do with weather patterns and berries! Fingers crossed!!!
Otherwise lifts are due to open on the 17th Dec.

nigels, rent a car and 3 hours later you could be here. We'll be open (26 Nov starting date), we have guaranteed ski-ing with the glacier. All sorts of accommodation (I don't have any!) Little Angel
