Snow Reports
FAQ
Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I am a British citizen, resident in Finland, and I'm interested in joining FFCAM. I spend about 5 weeks a year on holiday in the French mountains and would like to benefit from FFCAM discount rates in refuges and also take advantage of their optional extra insurance policy.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible for me to join, or do you need to affiliated with a local french club?
Also, if someone could point me to the correct place on their website I'd be grateful. I assume it should be here somewhere

Thanks

, Sorry no idea about the CAF, but you can join the British section of the Austrian Alpine club which gives the same reciprocal rights discounts (and insurance). I believe the Swiss Alpine Club has a british section as well.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

A lot of the clubs (but not all) let you subscribe online, for example the famous (for their lycra clad ladies):-
CLUB ALPIN FRANCAIS DSA DAUPHINE SKI ALPINISME
You will need to send them a medical certificate
The membership cost for clubs varies, depending what kind of facilities they have (e.g. climbing wall etc).

Yes, open to all though mainly only French spoken at meetings. You will usually find at least one fellow Brit who can translate. Club in Cluses is quite active.
