I'm already planning a trip next year and heading off to Meribel in late January. Despite a number of trips to the snow I've never got around to buying my own ski boots but have decided to make the investment in my comfort and skiing. My situation is a bit complicated by the fact that I live in Australia in a ciy with maybe one shop to buy ski boots with a very limited range.
My two options are to either buy boots in London before I travel to France or to wait to buy boots in Meribel. Any idea which would be the best option? Is there a better range on the mountain and are prices exhorbitant? I guess the positive side of buying in resort is that alterations can be made if necessary. Of course if I buy in London the problem is I may not be able to go back to the shop at all for any tweaks.

The short answer is - it has to be Meribel so you can work on the boots while you ski and make sure they're right before you go home. Prices will depend on the € exchange rate at the time but shouldn't be ridiculous.
There is one other option though - you could get them fitted at Surefoot in London who also have a store in Courchevel. Their guarantee covers alterations at any of their stores so if you have any problems you can just ski to the shop in 1850 which is very near the Croisette. They're not cheap though so it will depend on your overall budget!

Thanks everyone. The Australian dollar / Euro exchange rate is pretty good at the moment and hopefully will still be by the time I ge there which helps. Cynic, the trip isn't until next January so I'm sure there will be plenty of stock by then.

I had a great fitting from The Boot Lab in Courchevel 1650 earlier this season. Very knowledgable guys who sorted out my tricky issues and were extremely helpful with tweaking once the liners bedded in.

Freeride is not the shop it was four years ago, they may not even sell boots anymore (it's now an Oakley boutique). They certainly don't have the equipment and expertise of old.
Sorefoot are probably still the same mixed bag.
Go to Profeet in London and you might get one of the people who trained the BootLab Courchevel guys, which would be good...
Normally I say buy in resort, but there really isn't anyone left in Méribel to recommend (Sport Boutique perhaps).

Thanks for the tips Albinomountainbadger. I had a look at the Sport Boutique website and prices don't look too bad. Seeing as I won't have a car it might be a bit tricky for me to make it to Courchevel for boots before I start skiing.
Profeet sound good but the fittings aren't cheap when you consider that I won't be able to take advantage of the fitting guarantee. Lots to think about.

Raven, Ski Over see the guys at the bootlab in Courch, damn right about the fit guarentee though, this is why resort fitting works.

Raven, Why wouldn't the boots be ready, get there at say 4pm, boots take around 2 hrs, ski them Monday and take them back that evening for any modifications.....if needed.
