Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What length for rockered skis?

 Poster: A snowHead

Because who doesn't love a 'how long should my skis be' thread?

My mother's day present is a pair of skis, as per my previous thread I'm going to go with the Black Pearls (30% rocker, tip & tail plus cambered underfoot). I currently have some Feugos which are great for carving, they're very short (158 I think).

I'm 176cm, so just over 5'9 and around 65kg (145ish lbs) and therefore in the middle of most ski length suggestions thingies that I've found.

The Black Pearls come in a 166 or a 173 and even after much research I just can't decide what to get. I'll be using them for a bit of off piste but will eventually get some touring skis which will be used for the proper stuff. The Black Pearls will be used all mountain, in cruddy stuff and possibly for some mogul/tree skiing, if they're good enough on hard pack they may replace the Feugos eventually.

I've seen a mixture of advice about rockered skis, from 'size up' to 'don't size up because why would you remove the benefit of the rocker from skiing them longer'.

So, what say ye people of the internet? Up or down?

Longer, stiffer and fatter is always the correct approach Madeye-Smiley

I couldn't even begin to imagine what that means, so I'd ignore it if I were you!

I'll bet that the 173s would be just fine for you.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Definitely up! My daughter has 165 cm rockered twin tips and she's only 165cm/51kg.

Thanks, sorry for such a boring question. I managed to find a place in Austria which has the 173s so have ordered them. Now just need to find some bindings (s'ok, I won't start yet another thread about that) do the fun part and ski on them.

I must admit to a bit of trepidation regarding skiing the extra length, I had to remind myself that I was skiing on 185s.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It's not about length, it's about girth Toofy Grin

110cm Revel8 Rockered Condors (http://bit.ly/16shGYm), center mounted, is all I ride.

- 16.5/13.7/16.5cm width profile
- 1,268 cm2 underfoot.
- 10/17 tip and tail rocker design
- zero camber

And I am a 179cm by 65kg person.

(Disclaimer: these are not skis).

Hi MeMyselfandI,
I think the 173cm's will be just fine. My wife has the 166cm Black Pearl's and she's 170cm and 63kg. As for bindings she's got Tyrolia Peak 11's on them which is a very light set up if you are ok with that din range.
