Is it just me, or have some of you s/h's noticed that there are a lot fewer people snowboarding these days. Been out a couple of times this year and looking around there seems to be a much higher % of skiers.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Skis and skiers have caught up. People that way inclined are now more able to to do the tricks, flicks, spins and jumps on skis rather than just 'boards.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's a generation thing. Their parents all board, so today's teens are turning to skis as a part of their rite of passage rebellion.

There are pockets where it is still healthy (like Mayrhofen) but basically it is in a fairly steep decline in Europe but I understand not so much over the pond.

Actually, this year I thought snowboarding was making a comeback, I even saw some younger people on boards. However, When actually counting the numbers they were the same as last year at about 1 in 20 or 5% of the slope users.

djb85, Lots sunshine and up to around 7 degrees even at 3000m. I don't do much serious off-piste just bumbling off to the side and a few bump runs. Snow conditions in these bits were pretty good. Pistes were in good nick but quite hard and icy in places . Hara Kiri was pretty icy on the steep section. Hintertux seemed a bit softer on piste and in better condition overall.

Talking to a boarder in the US this week and he mentioned that numbers here have remained pretty consistant at around 20% of slope users - not including Alta or Deer Valley

I've definitely noticed a decline and the reasons have been much discussed here. But it does depend on where you go. I've seen less in PDS and Paradiski this year but I've just got back from Chamonix and was surprised by how many snowboarders there were, decent ones as well. Not sure what the reasons are because if you'd ask me to guess before this season I'd have said Morzine would have the most.
