Poster: A snowHead

So, on a parallel thread I asked for your collected wisdom of what I had forgotten in advance of tomorrow's trip ...
Some great suggestions, which I (and others it appears) have taken on board
But ...
You all forgot to tell me to check my flight time !
In fact instead of 2.30 from Gatwick, it is 12.30!!!!!!
Thank you mrs sev112 (well she was sure my flight was 3.30 !?, but at least it made me check .. Gulp
Just need to track down my skiing buddy and let him know ...
Men, eh ?!

sev112, I almost did something similar on a summer holiday a few years ago.
They changed the flight time from 7:15PM to 07:00, and for some reason it just didn't register that was a 12 hour change, I just thought it was 15 minutes earlier.
It was only by sheer luck that I was chatting with somebody else I knew slightly who mentioned they were going to the same Greek island on the same day, and mentioned the flight time, that made me double check it.

You'll need to Register first of course.

I turned up a whole 24 hours late for a BA flight at Munich Airport the other year. Handed over my passport and the lady said she couldn't find me on the flight. So eventually, after acting Mr Smartass, I delved into my bag for the confirmation and lo and behold I was a whole day late. She put me on the flight, no suggestion of charging. Good ole BA.

Bode Swiller, ...BA is amazingly good on things like that. I had (in relation to my partner...) 'madam...are you aware that yor passport will expire whilst you are away...' - and they simply changed the flights to a time after we could renew the passport. But.....by contrast...another airline
I turn up at Gatwick 2 hrs before flight...woman on desk says 'my god...you're not going to make the flight!...." I start to panic 'what???!??' ... she says go go...run to the gate...so I start running and then think no I am in very good time ... and at that point she shouts across the hall 'sorry I only just came on duty - I misread the clock'....
So I amble through security ... to find that the flight is now scheduled an hour earlier ... so now I DO have to run, since it's only 10 mins before the gate closes....
And when I get there, having rushed like bonkers....they say 'the ticket agents screwed up on the timings and issued loads of tickets with the wrong time...so now we're delaying the flight to make sure all the passengers who have the wrong time can make the flight...'.
This kind of stress takes years off your life. Not needed.

Bode Swiller, I did something similar with a hotel in Rimini last year, turned out I'd accidentally booked the night after the one I wanted (hadn't noticed the system search had reverted) - thankfully they had room anyway and honoured the original price of the booking too

A certain off-pisting tree-lover known well around these parts, booked his flight home from the Birthday Bash for a month later than his travel date!

My brother once managed to book a ferry (Speedferries - remember them?) for the day he turned up but exactly one year ahead. It was full and he had to head for Dover and pay top dollar for P&O. By the time the booked crossing came round they had gone bust.
His brother (yes - guilty ) once turned up for a crossing at just after midnight to be told it was booked for the day before. I totally failed to spot that the date changes as you scroll past midnight! A couple of hours sitting around and they let us on. Mrs DJL was not impressed.

The ones I enjoy are where people turn up to chalets that don't even exist. (When I say "enjoy", obviously I have sympathy but caveat emptor and all that)

Flying from Manchester to Munich last March the guy checking in before us looked gutted when he was told he had booked his flight from Nottingham by mistake and had an hour and a half to make the flight - Whoops.

Well a couple of years ago I went to the Eurail office and booked non-refundable train tickets for March 12th in the same lunch hour that my husband was booking a non-refundable hotel stay for February 12. You know how Feb and March look exactly the same in your week-per-view pocket diary? Probably doesn't happen if your diary is digital.
I'm sorry to have to tell you that we therefore went skiing in February... AND in March... in the same place. What an awful, awful mistake to have made!

We were invited to a ball on a Saturday night.
I was speaking on phone to my husband's workmate on the Friday and he said "see you later". I thought nothing of it at the time. We all say that. Then a nagging feeling...I rang husband's secretary and she said, I thought the the ball was tonight! Still not convinced (but worried) I called the ball venue....yes it's tonight.
I had booked hairdresser, overnight babysitters, hotel for the Saturday.
It was 3pm.
I had to ring and change the hotel booking, collect kids from school and pack for them and take them to my parents' 45 mins drive away, return 45 mins home , shower, iron his dress shirt, pack his suit and stuff, find the right underwear for my ball gown, luckily that was all ready, wash and do my hair and get ready and meet him at another town 40 mins drive away.... at 6pm. I made it, just. Stress level off the scale. He works in this town so no drama for him. We booked into hotel, luckily they even had a room! He showered and changed in 5 mins flat. And we were in the bar by 6.15 as planned...24 hours earlier than we had bargained for.
And now I ALWAYS deal with social events myself and double check the dates....
