Poster: A snowHead
|
Hello,
First post so please be gentle!
I've searched the forum but I can't seem to find a suitable answer, so here goes..
Please could someone advise if it's cheaper to buy Chatel and/or PDS ski passes in the resort, or online for an upcoming trip between 23rd and 26th March? 2 Adults (only one for PDS) and one child aged 8 (the other one will only be 4 so is free!!).
If it's online, do they send the ski pass to the UK, or do I still have to pick it up in the resort?
Thank you

DWJA1976, welcome to Snowheads
Generally it's no cheaper but from time to time there are special offers so it is worth checking, for example there was a 10% discount for certain dates earlier on in the season and there may well be some late season offers so check the website just in case.
Yes if it is online they will send the pass to your UK address and you can go straight to lifts with it and no need to activate it or anything.

DWJA1976, The Chatel flash sales tend to be for a Wednesday pass for Chatel and for Tuesday or Thursday for PDS. I've occasionally managed to get a decent discount this way. You can register to be notified and as you are there after the peak season you are in with a chance. You need a Hands Free card though.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Are you with TO or self sorted? The chalet we had in morzine sorted the PDS passes for us online, include a 5% discount and they were waiting for us on the table when we arrived.

We went to Chatel just before Christmas and the chalet we were in sorted our passes, but this time we've decided to make our own way and get a self-catered apartment. No free airport transfers or catered chalet this time!!
Before Christmas was my first visit to Chatel and my families first trip skiing, so they got a bit spoilt on their first trip..... I've warned them that future trips are going to be much more like the one we are doing on March 23nd i.e. Driving from Bristol and self-catering!!!
On a slightly different note, I've got proper winter tyres fitted (to my BMW) but is it possible that I would need chains as well??
Thanks for the useful info and quick responses!!!

DWJA1976, Ours was a self catered chalet too, check the website they might mention something about lift passes on it. Winter tyres are ace, chains worth chucking in just in case. Don't worry about self catered, saves a fortune, gives you total freedom and if it means two trips a year i don't see what anyones got to complain about

Thanks for the advice. I'l look for a set of chains, probably some fairly decent ones, particularly as I'll hopefully get a bit of use out of them in the next few years.
Thanks again!

I did just exactly what you are looking for with skilholidayextras.com (or .co.uk?!) and they gave an 8% discount.
Worth a go.

Ooh, but note that with a lot of the online providers, collection of the passes is Morzine and not Chatel.

Ah, just checked the site. No specific Chatel passes available, only PDS which need to be collected in Morzine or Avoriaz! The PDS pass for 5 days was 184E instead 190E, so a slight saving, but not worth travelling to Morzine/Avoriaz for, even with the three of us.
Thanks for the info though. I'll give that site a try in the future.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

DWJA1976, Definitely worth having chains too, even with winter tyres we needed them in Chatel for a steep drive and they were good to have on on the Pre la Joux car park one day too. Good luck sorting the passes, forgot to say if you still have your old passes you can simply recharge them so no need for new cards to be sent out.

We booked PDS passes in advance with our chalet in January, but when our arrival was delayed by 24 hours due to weather / flight problems there was no possibility of changing the passes as they had been booked in the UK. In future it would need to be a very cheap deal to persuade me to book passes in advance rtaher than on arrival in case of delays enroute or poor weather on the day......
