Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Duty free in Grenoble airport?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We are going to L2Alps this Saturday flying through Grenoble does anyone know what the duty free is like there for spirits and cigarettes?

Am I better buying in L2Alps?

You are not entitled to duty free at Grenoble as you have not left the EU.

Ramma666, what he means is that fags, at least, are the same price in the airport as in any tabac. Booze price varies, as it does in shops/supermarkets.

As Chris Bish, says spirits and tobacco there have 2 prices one double the other. No prizes for guessing which one you're entitled to.

Surely you buy as you leave UK not when you arrive in France?

Buy in local stores, it is generally cheaper but not always. I got a 0.7 ltr bottle of Asbach in a local supermarket in Mayrhofen for 14 euros, only to find that for the same price at INN I got a 1 ltr bottle ..... Sad

Fly to Geneva instead, duty free and the plane will land there everytime which is more than can be said of foggy Grenoble

Duty free at Grenoble is aimed at our rich Russian Friends - high end stuff and eye watering prices - there is a super U at the airport entrance roundabout.

Cynic, Grenoble and GVA have had a similar record this year......

Perhaps Ramma666, is flying out of the EU and hence entitled to duty free (but not profit free) prices

Duty free indeed. You'll pay no tax (currently 7.6%) on our inflated Swiss prices (currently eye-watering).

For most things, you'd be far better off buying in as big a French supermarket you can find and paying the VAT.

 You know it makes sense.

The trick with Geneva is to buy your duty free at the UK airport.

Only works if you have hold baggage (if you are buying liquids). Buy at the UK airport and then pack it in your hold baggage to take it home (assuming you didn't drink it all whilst you were away).

Aren't cigars a decent buy in Switzerland? I don't smoke but a former colleague always used to buy Villiger cigars when coming back from CH.

Can only comment on my own experiences but on a trip to to Chamonix I bought fags for on the mountain at 7euros+ a packet, not much cheaper than the UK. On the return flight from Geneva I stocked up on Drum tobacco at the equivalent of £3.50 per 50grams, it retails at £10-15 in the UK. If I'm only buying the allowed 200 fags/10000 grams I'd always buy from airport duty free.
