Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

8 months of skiing?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm finishing University this year (graduating end of July 13) and have a job lined up, but don't actually start until April 14.

I've been umming and ahhing about what I am going to do on my 'gap 8 months', but still can't decide. I originally wanted to travel around South America in the summer and then do a ski season in Europe in the winter, getting a job as a chalet host or barman or whatever.

Recently, I have been thinking about taking an instructors course (Basi L1&2) in Argentina in the summer before working a season in Austria/Switzerland/Italy. I'm a strong skier so would definitely be able to handle it. The main issue here is the cost. I'm struggling to find how much I can realistically earn back if I worked a season in Europe? What is the current salary for an instructor of that level? And how much of that will go on accommodation/food etc? Is there any point me doing an instructors course if I won't really be able to teach much after this year?

Or is there an alternative? If you had 9 months free, what would you do? I am a student, but have managed to save a small amount of money, and would obviously like to ski as much as possible.

If any of you have can answer any of my questions, or have any advice/suggestions then they would be most welcome.

Cheers,
Dylan

Sounds like a good plan, just find a gig where you dont have to look after too many guests.
There are various soft options around that allow you to ski a lot and not work all week, but they dont pay much (if anything).

Doing the season in a chalet for a commercial tour operator is probably the least favourable outcome, but others would argue that it is not that bad.

Assuming you will get paid enough to live in resort all season as a recently qualified Ski instructor is a little optimistic.

Good Luck anyhow.
