Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just thought i'd post a link to the UK and main ESF facebook pages.
They have kindly let people comment on these pages so if you have any thoughts about any subject *hosting, cough* you can make you opinion quite clear on there.

It would be great to see their pages emblazoned with the thoughts of the british skier.... wink wink wink

I am very amused by the anti-french / ESF xenophobia displayed on snowheads.
Uniformed Daily Mail reading punters from the home counties who think they can visit France and just do as they like?
Don't forget the Austrians banned unqualified ski hosts from the Arlberg a couple of years ago too wink

For a little balance....

Quote:
"ESF has incorrectly been cited as being the organisation for taking the Le Ski to court for its own protectionism. It should be stressed that ESF has not brought the action in the French courts, but the Public Ministry's (French Administration) did so in pursuing action against Le Ski for non-compliance with French regulations, after a Border Police Patrol Control found them to be contravening French law.

Under Article L.212-1 of the Sport Code in France, it is legal requirement to have a qualification to teach or lead skiing if remuneration is received.

The laws governing sport in France say that it is illegal to 'teach, lead, guide, animate' without an appropriate professional qualification. For professionals, and in particular for ESF, security on ski slopes is of paramount importance. Wintersports touring needs to be conducted with maximum security for those being escorted on the slopes with qualified guides/instructors. France recognises the equivalent professional qualifications for instructors and guides from other countries. Any qualified ski instructor and guide is allowed to operate in France and there is cooperation between European Ski Schools, so the qualifications obtained are to reach the European standards terms of certification. Certificates to operate officially are issued directly by the Ministry of Sports.

Haggis_Trap, I knew I had heard something about hosting in Austria being illegal too. You shouldn't be surprised at the anti-French feeling though, it's been going on for a while now.

All the whitewash about partie civile based on davidof's description is just that. It may be a French legal matter but it only got pursued because ESF were willing to participate.

To pretend otherwise after the event smacks of rank hypocrisy. Perhaps the ESF would like to educate Brit skiers with a complete list of what they did and didn't do re this case if they feel they are being victimised.

...and while we're at it an honest inventory of any complaints any chapter of the ESF haveve made to gendarmaries, mairies and other local authorities re UK TO activities in say the last 10 years. Just to see that they've never had an axe to grind of course - I suspect they'll only be minor complaints about how someone once dropped some litter or lit a cigarette in an inappropriate place wink

Front of Metro this am too.

If the ESF in Val D'Isere were likely to be that bothered about attracting more British customers they'd probably have updated their website to boast of the English speaking credentials of their instructors, as discussed earlier in this thread. We stamp our feet and shake our fists and rant on the internet. Rule Britannia, Briton never never never, we have built Jerusalem, we shall overcome....

What and miss an opportunity to wind up the ESF, assorted Francophiles etc? wink One can not like the protectionist attitude of the ESF, in this and other matters, but still like France as a country and French inidividuals. To draw an analogy it's a bit like saying tourists who don't like the attitude of the English Defence League should avoid coming to England.

Other than teaching most of us to ski, providing some of the best terrain in the world, being pretty good at cooking, having many resorts close to airports serviced by cheap flights, being friendly and welcoming, allowing us to colonise parts of their hills in winter and having invented convenience skiing - what have the French EVER done for us??!!

I like France and the French. What I don't like is the attitude of treating us all like 3 year olds.

TO host:
"This is social skiing. I show you the pistes, lifts with the least queues and somewhere nice to have lunch. I don't teach, I'm not a qualified guide and you take full responsibility for yourself."

Punter:
"Thanks. I'm an adult and I understand and agree to the deal."

I don't understand what the hell it has to do with anyone else, French or Martian Evil or Very Mad .

No, you can easily visit England and not have any contact with the EDL or them have any impact on your stay there at all. All the whingeing about the ski resorts in France seems crazy to me - people repeatedly doing the same thing and seemingly expecting different results and being disappointed. The whingers are adults who can choose to go skiing wherever they want. If the French laws, ESF, lack of ski hosting, beer, food, prices, service, accommodation, French culture etc. wee wee you off, then either go skiing somewhere else or just deal with it... although the worst whingers about skiing in France are the people who don't even ski there; that is crazy - you've moved on, found something better... get over it!
