Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
please forgive me as i'm sure this has been asked loads of times, but....... I'd like some advice on insurance.
As usual I'm on the last minute, we go to Claviere on Sunday, and I need to sort out my insurance. Can anyone recommend a good company to go with, i usually just go with the Post office for insurance but i'm not sure if this is wise?? Do i need a more specialised ski insurance company.
Also, is it wise to buy a "Carre Niege" (not sure about that spelling) when we get to Claviere and does one cover all of 3 of us or is it individual.
Thanks for your patience and any help

Check whether you have travel insurance packaged with your bank account. Many do these days and I think they all cover winter sports holidays with certain limitations such as number and length of trips, off-piste cover only with a qualified guide, etc.
If so, hey presto, no need to buy any more insurance. It works for me.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

queen bodecia,
Lloyds certainly didn't cover winter sports. You could upgrade to include it, but the cost of that was more than most other insurers would charge for a weeks cover. That was the main reason that I switched to the COOP.

My OHs Lloyds account covers winter sports with the annual travel insurance for something like 17 days so we use that one to cover us if we are out of Europe.

You'll need to Register first of course.

Pamski,
That must be a super expensive platinum or premier account then (£17-£25/month). I was a cheapskate with a gold account.
I got it free for the first year with the COOP, now it's £13/month

Thanks all for the replies,
sah, I'd read that thread earlier and MPI gets mentioned a lot so i'll look into them

howster, MPI are the ones that we use for our long term cover in Europe - proof of the pudding will be in the eating as our daughter has a claim in with them right now for the 4 month old baby's stay in hospital back in january.
musher, you are probably correct there - I don't know - after 40 years of marriage we still run our own money in separate accounts, well separate banks too apart from a small joint account.

actually MPI has come up really reasonable, in fact their economy option is only £45 for a single trip family cover - i don't want to sound like a cheap skate, but is it really worth paying £90 for the standard cover.
But as I'm writing i've realised £90 isn't much compared to the full cost of a weeks skiing, I'm starting penny pinching now which isn't something that goes hand in hand with a ski holiday
