Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Off Piste Long Weekend ideas please

Hi all .... looking for ideas for a 4 day long weekend in late March or early April.
Me and a mate have our new touring rigs and want to test them out - ideally in a group for a few days.
Don't want long tours or climbs ..... just short skins to access good slopes.
Considering Alpine Experience but any similar groups would be great ..... Chamonix would be good but cannot find many that run specific weekend groups.

Try St Anton. There's two great books by Andy Thurner that gives a whole host of great off piste skiing routes in and around the Arlberg (Off Piste in the Arlberg, and Ski Touring in the Arlberg). Take a transceiver, shovel, probe and some friends and food, and when the weather's good and the risk isn't considerable, a 30min-1hr skin can give you a 2hr run down in untracked snow back to Pettneu, or St Jakob. Then head back up again. If the weather's bad there's awesome off piste in bounds in St Anton (try the trees under Nasserein in a storm, or Rendl down from Riffelalp to Maasbahn).

Thanks ..... but ..... just got back from there ..... see Arlberg thread .... awesome off piste week - Schindler chutes, Rendl North face, Stuben etc - fab snow.
And my mate goes there in a couple of weeks so looking for somewhere different.

Thinking Chamonix ..... but haven't been with any guided groups as in the past we have had enough people to get our own guide.
Any ideas on guided groups for a coouple of days would be great.

it's a bit more of a schlep from the airport but SkiersLodge at La Grave do daily/weekend all inclusive rates. Thoroughly recommended

Alagna sounds out to suit you very well. And as Arno writes, Skierslodge in La Grave is awesome!

Surely Chamonix perfect. Very easy to organize independently. Close to gva so no reason not to ski on day of arrival and/or departure. Loads of hotels and no restriction to sat-sat stays. Loads of guides. And amazing terrain.
