When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi I am looking for a full set. Here is what for:
30% Ski Touring
40% Side Country (By this I mean, hikable/ tourable locations close to lifts)
20% Off Piste
10% On Piste

For skis I am considering a 30% rocker 70% chamber. As I am in it for the down not up. What do the experts think about this?
I am also looking for a 180 in size and about 130/100/120, I am 6 foot and 170 pounds, should I increase or decrease the lengths or sizes I am looking for?
I want to buy a 1 pair of skis though, so I am looking for something to fit primarily side country but won't kill me in the touring (I've been told not to care about weight, so I shall not any recommendations can be geared to performance / comfort).

For boots, I have no clue what I am doing, recommendations are extremely helpful here. Will touring boots work in off piste and side country or should I go for freeride boots (I hope not, I hear that they cause terrible blisters while touring). General guidelines or specific boots are really helpful.

For bindings, I would like to buy 1 pair of AT bindings if I could wear them for everything. In this section I also am a novice. All advice will be helpful here.

Or, y'know, tell us what you've used and where you've used it and whether you thought it was rubbish or not. If your carefully thought out down-to-the-exact-percentage skiing plans are entirely aspirational and you've had little or no touring experience, then just visit a boot fitter to get a nice pair of boots with a walk mode and rent kit when you get to wherever.
