Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Espace killy lunch spots

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Heading back out to Tignes in April and want to discover a few new lunch time eateries. We alsways end up lunching at the L'Arbrina. It is a nice spot and very central, but we always end up in there probably because it is easy. But what are we missing in either Lac or Val that you guys would recommend.
Somewhere that offers simple ish food at reasonable prices.
If you can give us a rough idea of how to find you recommendation as well plz

Cheers

smagsmith, The restaurant at the top of the Chaudannes lift (which starts in Laverchet & goes towards Brev & Boisses) is good

In Val, the Solaise self service is great - the plat du jour is what you want there, as is so often the case in La Belle France

smagsmith, if you want a really cheap lunch, head for the Spar supermarket in Le Lac - they have a cafe in there with some very wallet friendly dishes (sandwiches and hot dishes).

It's a no-frills place (which may or may not be what you're after) - but if it's just a re-fueling stop, it does the trick.

Jam Bar - 20 metres up Rue De La Poste from the Palafour - about €10 for a bowl of freshly cooked pasta.
Aspen - Val Claret - far side of the little square beyond the arch over the road - great fast food - burgers salads etc.
Brasero - ski down the track into Lavachet from the bottom of Trolles or the top of the Rosset Chair - great steak sandwiches and chips for €8.50.
Loop - at the top of the Promenade de Rosset - wide selection of grub at reasonable prices.

I will now have to hide from the rest of the expats for giving away the secrets

+1 for Jam Bar, Aspen Café and Loop. Tignes Cuisine as well (next door to the Loop).

Don't know the Brasero, will have to check that out!

Omelettes in the restaurant at the top of the Chaudannes are superb. Burgers in Loop bar equally great. There's also a bbq place by the Madeleine on the Val side called l'Ouillette, which if its a sunny day is an epic stop off. Not the cheapest but not outrageous either, and worth a visit.

Thank for the tips. That gives us a few extra options.

Like the sound of Loop and Aspen. Also we are stopping in Boisses, so the top of Chaundannes is sounds good too

Bottom of Palafour lift, the road next door to it, going up the hill has a few good options. Bar Marmot seems to largely do burgers, but a good selection - meat, veggie, etc. About 13 € for a burger, but unless you are the hungriest person on the mountain, it will feed two people eadily - comes with good chips.

Just up the road is a savoyarde type place, can't remember its name but it's the first one you come to which has steps to get up to it. It does a good range of stuff including pizzas from a nice open oven, plat du jour and decent house plonk. About 10 € for a basic main.

L'Arolet in le Fornet always gets a visit from us too.

One on the mountain is the restaurant near the Mont Blanc lift, just at the exit of the boardercross. Decent enough self service selection, ok prices.

Piccadilly, excuse the spelling but I think that is Trifollet? Worth booking ahead if your going during the lunch rush. Damn fine food, not cheap but good value for money. Pizza will serve 2 if your not starving.

lilywhite, we went there in December and it is very nice

This thread has drifted from cheap food in Tignes to expensive restaurants in Val d'isere.

I think the take away food from the Spar Supermarket in Lac is the best value. If it's sunny you can use the tables outside the supermarket.

Cafe Bagus above the Spar Supermarket is about €13 for a main course with a drink and the burgers are/were good (restaurant changed hands recently).

Pignatta in Val Claret is very similar to Cafe bagus.

One of my favourites (I will go there in 2 weeks time) is "My Place" or "La Place" in the ground floor of the Montana Hotel in Lac. 200 metres from the bottom of the Palafour chair lift, just above the bus station and main road out of Tignes.

there's a new restaurant up at Le Fornet called l'Ouillette. It's *very* cheap at the moment as they're trying to build a customer base - it's even cheaper than some places down at village level. 2 euros for a hot chocolate for instance, the same hot choc costing 5 euros at the top of Toviere (as in from the same machine)

La Daille, Fasty Foody in the commercial centre of La Daille, great burgers!

and some seasonnaires took me to a great sandwich place in the middle of Val D'Isere, did loads of hot and cold sandwiches, but I cannot remember the name! Had one side serving food, the other side with a sit down area for coffee/tea etc

Cheers,

greg

nbt, Do you mean the one near the Cascades and Glacier lift - if so the scuttle round the valley is that it is owned by the same folks as the Marmottes Restaurant at the bottom of the Borsat lift. This would make sense as the prices are the same and the menus virtually identical - both good value and both also well worth a visit.

Another vote for l'Arolay in Le fournet

You can almost ski to the door if you take a right as you come out the cable-car and keep to the (skier's) left as you go down through the trees.

L'Armially in Tignes Les Brev, best pizzas in EK IMO.........avoid the red canopy place at bottom of the slope though just before the bridge, charge 2€ for use of the WC and miserable staff last time I was there!!

don't know the name but the restaurant at the base of the val d' glacier was excellent value and quality last year. it's new (i believe) and wasn't quite finished but we weren't bothered and for that day trip from tignes, it's a perfect stop-off on a venture across all the valleys.
