Daughter is off to Canada to do CSIA L1 & L2 exams and the place she is going now can also do BASI L2 exams. She already had BASI L1.
Is there any point her doing the additional exam to get BASI L2 or is it the same as the Canadian ski teaching qualification?
Plan is to go back to Canada and teach next season whilst working towards CSIA L3. Little chance she would work in Europe as she has not additional language skills but may go to New Zealand.

Hi, I'm both CSIA & BASI qualified, and have found the BASI qualification useful over the years. CSIA & BASI phylosophy and approach to training is slightly different, but i've always found that to be a good thing as i've learnt things from different perspectives.

Jake43, if she plans on only teaching in Canada then don't see any point in having BASI as well. In my experience with Austrian ski schools they will take any recognised qualification, certainly for the busy weeks and language isn't a big issue either as plenty of english speaking clients need lessons.

I've got both, I found the different methods really useful, really adds to the teaching toolkit, great to cherry pick from both. As your daughter is planning on focusing her teaching in Canada however, I'd stick with the CSIA and save a packet on getting her Level 3, CSIA is much much cheaper than BASI to get qualified, as well as the CSIA really look after their members interests, BASI in my view do sod all for their members.

If she is going on to 3 BASI gets ISIA CSIA does not.
CSIA 2 is not recognised in UK by ESC for working on plastic seen as below old club instructor level some years ago. So be it restrictive practice or whatever BASI is the best to have because it is recognized in UK , but if only plan to work in Canada CSIA3 is the way to go
Having read original post helps sometimes, yes go for BASI 2 at same time fitness and ski levels at their height, BASI 2 is the one to have from a biased point of view I have always thought that BASI2 and CSIA3 are the same standard.

If she if going to be Europe based at any point in the future, it is much easier to keep BASI up to date i.e. refresher every 3 years etc. Its a long way to fly to canada for a refresher to keep your qualification valid.

Spyderman, i dont have a Canadian license but perhaps it would be useful to the OP to make a brief comparison of the benefits you feel you receive from BASI and CSIA. For me as a starter for ten
BASI - good Equipment discounts (Salomon, Rossi Hestra etc), liability insurance, reasonably priced travel insurance, representation in Europe, ISIA stamp and card, good value training (imo), decent manual
CSIA - Excellent manuals and training materials,

snowrider, CSIA refresher courses are held in Europe too - there are lots of CSIA Level 2 & 3 working for example in Austria.

Brilliant feed back thanks everyone. Looks like more money going out - is it ever at an end. Not that I mind it is cheaper than the University course and hopefully more chance of a job at the end of it. Mind if you never pay back the loan...... Her Uncle is BASI 3 but does not have a clue when asked ! Doh.
