Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What? 15 days? Loony! Have a beer, relax, you have no hope so just chill and take it slow on the slopes - not that you'll have a choice...

Seemed like a good idea at the time; SWMBO took a week off at the same time I did and we could only agree to go skiing! Question for the masses: I'll be skiing in 15 days, after a couple of years off, just fully recovered from a badly sprained ankle and Not Fit At All. I'll have lots of time for exercise until I go, so should I beast myself in the gym (and risk injuring something) or is it too late to benefit so I may as well just relax and plan for an "easy" week?

Grateful for your thoughts!

(Ski'd about eight weeks over the past decade or so, so not beginner but know enough to be dangerous...)

Have you been don any descent gym or exercises? Exercise is always good but be very careful not to overdo it, it so easy to do that when coming back from an injury, I would be tempted to suggest doing a load of swimming if you haven't done much at all recently I will build up muscles and minise chances of straining something.

Oh and should have I definitely wouldn't cancel even if you find you end up having to take a lot more breaks and ski for shorter days I sure you will still have a fantastic time after all its a holiday - enjoy it!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

LMAO!

Check. Will grab some 1664. Very Happy

Thanks Nicky. Was worried hitting the gym would just lead to injury, tempting though it is. Swimming not my thing though... Sad

"Leg exercise" thread is interesting but keep coming with the advice!

After I tore my medial meniscus cartilidge and had it removed I had a lot of trouble getting my fitness back, I kept pulling muscles even though I thought I was taking it easy in the gym so I started doing aqua aerobics. I found that got me to a point I was able to do descent workouts in the gym and start progressing and getting my fitness back enough to get back to hockey training again. Good luck.

Began training today. Ran up four flights of stairs (late again!) and had a cheeky glass of a French red.

Acclimatisation in progress - 42% of SH can't be wrong! Very Happy

(Fitted some Intuitions into my old shells as a semi-serious ski prep activity - AMAZING! I'll be out of breath on the slopes, but my feet will feel GREAT!!!!)

Made it to the gym. Slippery slope? (no pun, but since I mention it...) Cool

Used a Wave Technology crossover machine, rowing machine and treadmill. Not feeling a thing today so need to train harder?

Passed exam today, so more beer acclimatization later!

Wobbler, maybe though I always find first hockey match back at the start of the season it is always 2 days later that I feel really stiff.

Ah, NickyJ, the "2 Day Phenomenon" is well known in our house - I know just what you mean. Managed the gym AGAIN last night, despite the snow, and doubled the Wave time! I appear to be going against 51% of the SH advice here - although I have just "acclimatized" again.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Update:
Thanks all for the advice. A little exercise but nothing special done before the holiday. Day 1 skiing; usual boots-related tenderness but quads suspiciously not stiff. Calves a little stiff - need to lean forward more? Bailed early afternoon to be sensible. Day 2: More stiffness in quads today, as NickyJ predicted, but still hugely enjoying myself. Proof that you don't need to be a total athlete to enjoy skiing!

Very Happy

Wobbler, glad it's going well, just observing based on how I am after the first hockey match in the season. Happy

Some "post match analysis"; it occurred to me that although I skied as hard as usual, I put more effort into technique - and wasn't bothered about ending skiing early. Perhaps that's what fitness adds - the endurance and challenge to go first to last lift. Smile

Wobbler, sounds like ou had a great time, glad to hear it. I suspect that you ended up doing more than I will - despite being nice an fit 2 weeks ago, last week I injured my knee at hockey training, I am now in the hoping I will be able to ski at all stage.
