Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

advice for resort driving from geneva mid april...

Booking some cheapish flights to Geneva this week going the 11th April, only for a few days as not been able to get away skiing yet this season for one reason or another!!! Not been to Switzerland or France skiing before and after doing a bit of looking on the forum here an the net its looking like the obvious choice for snow sure resorts are Val Thorens and Tignes... We arrive the Thursday earlyish about 10am to Geneva was thinking hire car get to chosen resort and fly out about 10pm 3 days later on the Sunday... We can get 3 days skiing in then drive back on the Sunday night...

We are about 4 or 5 weeks skiing decent intermediate's confident on red's an can get down blacks fine although most of that skiing being in Bulgaria so i appreciate things will be a bit different in France!

Couple of questions really...

Never drove in the alps so if we went to Tignes can it take more than 3 - 4 hours driving to the airport and anyone know how much the toll roads are?

Any resorts I could consider other than the two i have mentioned closer to airport preferably with a bit of apres ski? Few pubs with a bit of music would be great!!! Budget is not a major issue as we will be hoping to get a good value catered chalet and we wont be out drinking that much!

Just looking for a few pointers or suggestions really as we are newbies to France and there are so many resorts...

Thanks...

Tolls €31 return if you do the max on autoroute. Will take around 3 hours, shouldn't be any significant hold up at Easter unless you are very unlucky (or lucky) with a massive dump of snow.

By mid april many resorts will be shut or shutting. I think your choices of Tignes or Val Thorens are good ones - though if you wait till the last minute to book accommodation there might be a number of other places still with good snow.

Train from Geneva airport to Le Chable and ski in Verbier? You'll save a bit on car hire (but will need this if you plan any Verbier apres ski!).

ryan110398, leave your booking until the last minute.

We have had excellent conditions staying in Morzine and skiing Avoriaz April 28 for example.

Chamonix will still be live and kicking.

offset train fare with cost of hire car Puzzled . OP doesn't say how many going but I'd say a car full (4) will be better value than the train.

Geneva to Bourg is a bit under 3 hrs on a coach with a stop at Moutier. It goes the slightly longer way round as well, so Geneva to Tignes should be no more than 3 hrs in normal conditions.
