Got back from St Anton last weekend, and as I'm snowed in right now I thought I would work out how much the holiday cost for me and Hils. We went for six days only (5 days skiing) and flew with BA from Heathrow to Zurich, then took the train from Zurich to ST Anton. I was quite surprised how much this cost us and have come to the conclusion that if you can get a good deal with a T/O it will probably be cheaper. The summary as follows :-
Six days b&b accomm.....................................£483
Air Fare.........................................................£259
Train.............................................................£116
Spending money.............................................£1000
Lift passes and odd meals payed by credit card...£400
Total..............................................................£2258
I know the £1000 seems high but it was remarkable how quickly it disappeared, and we are not heavy drinkers, although we did have about five drinks each every day. Anyway, I hope this is of some use to somebody out there. Anybody got any comments???

Presumebly that covered the majority of food as well as you said some meals were on CC. It is why I find h catered chalet options so good as we dont spend much additionally

If you went to a catered chalet and didn't drink "out" at night you'd save a fair bit on your £1000 "spend" but otherwise it wouldn't make a vast difference, I'd have thought. £100 a day each on lunch, drinks and dinner is quite a lot - I thought eating and drinking was fairly inexpensive in Austria? Sounds like it must have been a very good holiday though.

pam w, that's the point as the wine is included we find we are personally quite happy to stay in socialising with the othe guests etc.

NickyJ, we generally did catered chalets as a family and it saved us a fortune. Big breakfast, big tea at the end of the ski day, meaning only minimum spend out on the mountain, and sociable evenings. It did annoy me when we had to pay for soft drinks for the kids, when the adults were quaffing improbably quantities of wine. 
I liked the fact that we could take duty-free gin and buy tonics from the chalet staff - beer, too. They made a modest profit on the supermarket prices and saved us a lot of humping. Chalet hols can be quite good for that, too, come to think of it, once the kids are grown up.

xscreamer, did something simalar, but went for a 3 day break travelling out on Wednesday the 9th, returning on Sunday 13th. Got 3 1/2 days skiiing.
EasyJet from Gatwick to Innsbruck return - £100pp
Bus from Innsbruck to Station - £1.50pp (Taxi to the station from airport on the way back was 12 euros between 3 of us).
Fast Train from Ins to St Anton return - £25pp
Stayed at Rundeck hotel opposit station and 2 min walk from Galzig - 100e pppn B&B (great hotel throughly recommend it ) 4 nights.
Lunch each day - 10e
Evening meal - 20 - 40euro pp.
Incidententals (beer money) approx 50euro pppd.

xscreamer, Looks about right, and good value, apart from the £1000 spends in 6 days, we spend much less than that on lunch/ dinner and I'm always happy with the quality. I dont think you'd get a T/O deal much cheaper, and you presumably retained your sanity rather than being herded about and talked down to by a travel rep who knew SFA about the area? I will always travel independently, T/O's are for numpties IMO.

I was just detailing the costs for potential independent skiers. I'm definitely not complaining cos we had such a great time as always in St Anton. We never get tired of standing on the Valluga and just taking in the views, the Arlberg is awsome.

Doing similar to St Anton this weekend to meet up with some friends booked through a TO. Bargain flight EDI-INN for £139 (inc £40 ski carriage), & single room in a pension on Dorfstrasse for EUR40 pn. If I'd waited, I could have had the flight for £109: http://tinyurl.com/bgym2la
The good thing about St Anton is that even if your Innsbruck flight is diverted to Friedrichshafen or even Salzburg or Zurich, you can still get there by public transport. (Re-)organising a transfer after a flight diversion in France would be a nightmare.

Yeah one person, there are 4 of us going. Does seem quite pricey this year but you've got to have some reason to work your nuts off each day!!

xscreamer, 1000 pounds each for six days for one person on food and drink is really going some! Say a beer is five euros and lets say that's five pounds (it's not, but). So that's 25x2x6=300. So you still spent nearly 60 a day each on eating! Wow. That's a lot of slap up food. Unless you were picking badly I imagine the food should have been an awful lit better than you would get on many TO set ups. So I'm not really sure you are comparing like with like.

just me and the mrs. Incidentally, often we had soup for lunch, and shared a dessert. And for dinner we went to the Chinese (very good), pomodoro, Bobos, Haferl (cheap Omlette), Im Gries, and one which I can't remember. But nowhere particularly expensive. We did spend some money apres skiing at Heustadl, Moose (once), Kandahar (Gunar, brilliant). But the money just seemed to drift away, and we don't regret a cent!!!

We're off to St Anton in March (2 adults and 2 kids) and it's costing us roughly what the OP spent, including childcare. But if we didn't have kids, we'd have spent that extra money on apres ski and dinners on the mountains too - which would be pretty awesome. Enjoy it before the nippers come along and burn a massive great hole in your wallet (and ability to party/hold your drink, but let's not go into that here.  )

xscreamer, still puzzled by how much money you seemed to have got through. Sure there wasn't a trail of euro notes flying out your ruck sack as you were skiing along? Soup on the mountain is five euros. Pizza at Pomodoros ten euros. Five drinks. 25 euros. Daily 40 euros. Chuck in another ten for whatever. 50 euros. Round that up again to £50. Times two £100. Times 6 £600. And that's with a lot of rounding up.

To be honest we organise out own trips most years... M budget would always be around £1000-£1500 for the whole trip...

Our lunches averaged 30euro a head, our après was 450euro a pop and our evenings out were about 200.
Got my 5euro back for my lift pass though

What a dork!!! I've cocked this right up. Actually the accommodation cost came out of the £1000 spending money cos we had to pay cash for the room, which means that we actually spent £1775. Bloody hell I can look at going again now!!!

Spends £340 (about €400)
so £2,154 or £1,077 each
Add on the various costs for children's accom, childcare and ski lessons for 18 mth and 3 yr old and the holiday total is just shy of £3k. And it's only going to get worse from now as they'll both be classed as children next season so will need all the free child places I can get - * goes off to read budget family hols threads *

Our total cost for a couple skiing St Anton in 2006 was £2901. We rented a flat with my brother family for a week but skied 2 days before in Garmisch Parkenkirchen. After St Anton I went to ski a week in Dolomites with the wife. Our cost is for 14 sking days away for 19 days as I needed to go to Munich to pick up my brother's family and then ssaw them off after skiing St Anton. The total cost for a couple was £207 per skiing day using own car.
In 2007 one week in Cervinia/Zermatt followed by a week in Milky Way cost £3696.
The 2008 one week in Zillertal Valley followed by another week in ISchgl was £2713.
In 2009 we have almost 3 weeks in Switzerland going through Engelberg, Flims, Davos and St Moritz. That was an arm and a leg for £5177.
2010 One week in Ski Amade and another week in Dolomites was £3602.
In 2010 the 2-week Colorado trip skiing everything from Loveland to Aspen cost £4213.
2011 was for Stubai Valley, Solden and everything in Galaxy ski pass (From Milky Way to LAlps D'Heuz) spending £4631.
Last year Gstaad, MonteRosa, Cervinia/Zermatt and Saas Fee cost £4272.
All total cost for one couple away for about two weeks DIY skiing holiday travelling in own car.
Thus £2000 per week per couple for a DIY skiing holiday is right in today's money.
