Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Me! Will be out with some Interski instructors, are you staying in Pila or Aosta? We're down in Aosta right by the gondola.

Any other snowHead around, always up for a drink and/or slide.

Philib, You can but you'd prob need a cab back, I'll ask my mate who's over there now what time they've been closing it back from Aosta, but it's usually 5. If you want some more happening apres there are some good places in Aosta. The Gondola is about 20 mins but I like being in Aosta as it makes it easy to get to a number of other places.

Drop me a PM if you fancy meeting up.

Curtains, I'm in Pila with Interski are you working or is it a holiday? Le Thuile, Courmayeur and Pila all pretty close. I'll hopefully make it one or both of the others. Le Thuile is great.

How can I get from Pila to Courmayeur? The reason I ask is that when I went before (11 years ago whilst at school) we done a day trip over there as well. Obviously this was all organised by the school and I cant really remember how we done it. Is there a way I can get there? I really want to go. aaaagggghhhhhh getting excited now.

Philib, If you're on package deal chances are they'll offer a ski aware day, otherwise the cheaper choice would e to get the bus from Aosta. If you want to try something different (if you haven't been) Le Thuile has some good terrain and you can get over to Le Ros although I find the link pretty tedious. Getting to Cervinia is also do-able, well worth it just to ski Zermatt!

Philib, Which operator are you using? I'll be excited once the coach journey is out the way-if you can't sleep perhaps you we should swap transport? Toofy Grin

YMD, Are you staying in Pila? If so yes it's a really nice place to ski with some lovely runs. Although the piste map shows the resort as being predominantly 'red' none are too difficult but rather nice and wide. 'The Wall' is quite a steep and challenging black. with 70Km of piste a reasonable skier could ski every run pretty quickly but it's really quiet through the week in particular, so that you can just enjoy those nice sweeping reds working on carving your turns. Once at the bottom of your run unfortunately you'll maybe have one or two other people waiting for the lift that will really hold you up Very Happy If conditions are right there's plenty of off piste too.

Courmayeur is worth a visit as is La Thuile which has some interesting terrain. Further afield you also have Cervinia, about 1.5hrs but worth considering if only to allow you to ski Zermatt. Drop me a PM if you fancy meeting up.

Philib, Will be Crystals in resort service i.e. reps. Doing one of their escorted ski days may be an idea for you? From memory they do a days aimed at blues, and another at reds.

My mates, mate is out there working at the moment. Although it hasn't skied for a while things are in very good nick in Pila according to him. Watched some of the racing in St Anton on tv. Some of the alleged 2 foot they had last night would be nice if repeated in the Aosta valley....

All was well with my trip until I started getting various emails through with revised itineraries, where my hotel was kept changing and eventually resort. So now it looks as if I'm going to be in courmayeur rather than Pila. No biggie but seems very odd when the bus full of school kids is going to Pila still.

So I'm afraid it's unlikely I'll be in Pila unless I do an away day.

I will differ. No red wine (and so no vin chaud) and beer served in plastic glasses yesterday. We'll not be back despite it being the closest (piste-side) bar to our hotel and so theoretically the obvious location for apres-ski.

Have been in Pila all week with a group. Treated like royalty at the Chatelaine lunchtime Monday/Tuesday when hardly anyone on the mountain. Societe has also done us proud lunchtime/morning stop - well worth the extra for lunchtime restaurant service rather than the bar.

Nuova lift has been suffering for a few days: down from 6-seater to only 2 or 3 per chair and only every other chair in use. Totally closed today (hope they were fixing it!) with a result that that part of the mountain was empty - hard to get to from the other lifts.

But it's cold. -22 C in the village last night. -13C at 3pm mid-mountain today.

Just checked with friends who've been in Pila today (we did a day trip to La Thuile/La Rosiere) and the Nuova chair was still very sick today: running, but only running at half-speed, only 3 people per chair (instead of six) and only every other chair. Likely to be chaos tomorrow when the locals arrive...

It was awesome. Didnt queue for a lift at all during the week. Done a day trip to courmayeur where I found that loads more busy. Apres was a bit poor but I didnt exactly go looking for it. After hours of skiing I was more then happy to hit the sack.

Will do a little review at some point so people can read up on it in more detail.
