Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Picnic rooms in Les Deux alpes?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We're considering a trip to les deux alpers - the hotel we're looking at offers "all inclusive" which allows you to make up a packed lunch but as we're not going at the warmer end of the season, eating outside would be a bit chilly! I know most north american resorts offer space where you can eat your own packed lunch, can anyone advise how L2A is set up in this regard?

Can't remember seeing any last Easter but as it was very pleasant sat on the terraces with a coffee I can't say I particularly looked for them!

nbt, There are a couple I think at the Glacier and Toura. I don't think there is one at Cretes anymore.

I thought it was a capital offence in most French mountain restaurants - if not they certainly behave like it is

I've sat outside an eaten at just about all stages of the season, given a decent bit of sun it can be very pleasant and warm feeling. can't remember any "salles hors sac" in LDA, but we used to find some comfy rocks to perch on somewhere sheltered, just the job.

Thanks folks. Claude B, from your ptompt I did find some "Salles hors sac" on the piste map at the lift stations you indicated

however, we've decided not to go - we were looking at a deal leaving tomorrow that I'll post up elsewhere, but we just can't afford it right now

Lizzard, for future reference are they actual rooms or just "picnic areas"? AT least one of the picnic spots in Lp Plagne is a proper indoor space, but then again one of them is just a few benches outside the lift station

They're popping up all over the place now, the old Bachas restaurant in Monetier is now a picnic room and snack bar.

We were there for Christmas 2 years ago. Bargain for that.

It was a bit like Fawlty Towers at times given that most of the staff had turned that week and we were the first guests, but by the end of the week they'd pretty much cracked it. They worked hard and smiled a lot (apart from the misery guts behind the bar) when it was going wrong so it was no bother.

Oh and we ate in the room at Toura, was fine. We also ate at a picnic bench on Cretes on a warmer day.

hammerite, The one and only bench at Cretes, it's in demand. There are other benches spread around too, definitely some near the top of the lifts at Fee, some in more out of the way places.

whereas restaurants in the UK are noted for their warm welcome of customers who want to sit down with a bag of rolls and Twix bars prior to visiting the toilets.

pam w, why do so many people object and claim it is the French at fault, when they are the ones who have forgotten their manners. They wouldn't do it in the UK would they?

Hells Bells, I agree and often easier to picnic in France than the UK.

I think they'd only just put in when we were sat there. It did think it was a bit of a naff place to put a bench, but there weren't any bad smells and I guess the contents are frozen most of the time!
