Alrighty,
some of the more football inclined snowheads might have noticed today that Scotland's premier football team (and the first team from the UK to win the European Cup  ) have been drawn against Juventus in Turin on the 6th of March.
I've got a week off and am considering combining a week’s skiing with some champions league. Sauze D'Oulx seems pretty close.
Has anyone ever made the journey from Turin to Sauze on public transport?
Anyone recommend any other resorts that are easily accessed from Turin?
Any advice is much appreciated,

In 2006 I was in Serre Chevalier just before Arsenal played at Juve. There were posters in all the bars advertising coach trips to the match, including tickets. I don't know if it's still the case, but back then Juve used to get quite poor attendances for the Champions League, so tickets would be easy to get, but that would be for the home sections!
From Sauze it's just a short bus or taxi to Oulx from where you can get a train to Turin.

sean1967, I have skied a day in each of Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere from Turin. There was a Turin-Lyon express train that got to Oulx just after 9am, buses to each of the resorts met the train, this was a while ago though.

I think I will have to sit in the Juve end anyway because the Celtic allocation will be taken up by the official Thomas Cook trip. We tend to take a lot of away fans and the allocation will only be 3,000.
I'll have a look at Serre.

- Yes. Aosta Valley has loads - eg:
- Aosta town itself (connected by gondola directly to Pila and an interesting, cobbled old town with a Roman 'arc de triomphe' and amphitheatre. Cheap digs/food and drink too.)
- Courmayeur.
- Gressoney.
- Champoluc.
- Cervinia.
Of these, Courmayeur is furthest from Turin but is only about 120km - but it's all on motorway and an easy drive at an hour and a bit. The other areas are all up mountain roads but nothing too difficult.
On a cautionary note, although Serre Chevalier is excellent, it's over a (sometimes snowy) pass from Italy. We've done the trip twice and needed to use snow chains both times - I'd stick with skiing in Italy. Sauze D'Oulx is excellent too and is also very easy to get to. Although the last bit is up a mountain road (I think) it's not much more than an hour or so in total from Turin airport.

Juves new stadium only holds 22000 fans compared to the old stadium which held 70000 so tickets for the home end could be a struggle.

I think it holds 41,000.

It actually holds 41,000. That will be plenty. Italians don't really do European games unless they are really big or the latter stages. I went to the Stadio delle Alpi once and San Siro a couple of times with crowds of no more than 25,000.

I agree, they won't turn up. We gave them a spanking back in 2001 at Parkhead and will do the same this year

When I went all English fans (may be different for Scots  ) were banned from all city centre bars (we walked a couple of miles out and found a lovely place where we were made most welcome). The public transport was full of pickpockets. Italian fans are very keen of their knives, there were a couple of stabbings when I was there. And of course the Italian police are an absolute pleasure (not), expect really long delays after the game if you're in the away end.

I've heard similar stories from fans who were in Turin in 2001.
I speak a wee bit of Italian and would fancy my chances of blagging a bevy pretending to be an exchange student or similar baullix.

Hi,
I went to Sauze in 2011 and combined that with a spurs champions league game in Milan. As another poster has said from Oulx there is a train to Turin. Takes two hours if I remember correctly and Oulx is about 15 minutes from Sauze.
But there is a company that runs transfers to champions league games from the milky way. Coach goes round the houses but will mean you dont have to worry about the last train back. This lot http://www.alpineapres.com/ were kind enough to give us a lift back from Milan even though we didn't book tickets through them.
