Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tele skis

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello all

Looking for ideas on which pair of skis to buy for telemarking using the ntn system, ie with 95mm brakes...

Any suggestions?

Ej_12, seriously you can put tele bindings on ANYTHING . . . including a snowboard, I should know Twisted Evil . . . Dedicated tele skis tend to be lighter construction with a gentler flex in the nose as we can't pressure drive the skis as in alpine. I have some old stiff Icelandic Nomads that I've learned to fall off of at quite high speed and some Line P3 which are just floppy noodles. Think about twin tip park skis as they seem to have relatively similar tip and tail flexion and that will make riding the edge in a carve a very even and controlled action . . . and you can learn to tele 'switch' wink

edit: from experience, Dynastar Legends are very competent under tele bindings.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for the advice, was a lazy attempt to narrow down my choices! Will come down to price in the end...

Ej_12, If it's just price then go for unused last season high range skis from a major maker. I saw some 'new' last season Fischer Watea 84's on fleaBay for $199. Ideal for tele, but really just hit the ski review sites and waste a day making a shortlist . . . and another day making a shorter list . . . then hit the ski discount shops like 'Conrad' etc. and buy whichever suits your wallet. There are places in the bigger resorts you can hire tele and some are now offering NTN. You'll need to research for that or just take a punt. Unless you're an aggressive telemarker and into fast carving turns then most of your choices will be fine. 'Intermediate level' skis will be better tuned to sliding or smeared turns and fat waists can make that turn initiation into hard work . . . took me quite a while to cope with the width of the Nomads, lovely and stable in a flat glide but a real knee trembler in a soft tele turn and rocketships on an edge Twisted Evil
