Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Fantastic. Thanks for posting.
Wish my old Dad was still here to see that. Must have been mid 70s when he first took me there, having perfected my turns in our field on his old Kneissls, red top sheet, bright yellow bases, cable bindings, poles up to my ears and twin layer leather lace up boots.
Happy days

"The Spey Valley is one of the worlds most highly developed ski areas... and that's a fact"
wow... that's a bold claim, even in 1970!
Mind you, that was 5 years before I was brought into this world... anyone skiing back then care to comment?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Peter S - That's brilliant - thanks!
That takes me back! Having skied there on Wed & Thurs to celebrate a big birthday (er, something to do with half centuries...) I can fondly remember the White Lady Chair and old Ptarmigan from my first visits in the late 80s. I never did go in the Shieling Cafe though and unlike 1 guest, all my skiing's been done in plastic boots .

espri, yeah, I thought those queues looked all too familiar.
I'm amazed at the length of the oldchair, mind you it did run top to bottom.
Brilliant!

Not originally. When I first used it, in 1962 (its first season, I think), it only ran from the Sheiling to the Ptarmigan (initially without restaurant). The day started by hiking up from the car park to the Sheiling - good warming up
P.S. There's interesting reading about Cairngorm developments here.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Ahhh the Queues, the Queues - wonderfully self-organised, as only the British can......

I first skied in Cairngorm and thought I would go back many many years later, stay in the Spey Hotel as I had such happy memories and go the BASI HQ for a BASP course. By the Queens place it was snowing heavily when I changed trains and arrived at the Hotel for unbeknown to me it's last week; it was due to be flattened. I ventured down to the bar as we say in the south and was nearly trampled by a rush for the happy hour and a guy carrying 10 pints on a tray and balancing whisky chasers on his arm, this didn’t happen in Rebus I thought; but hey go with the flow. The BASP course took place with real snow buried casualties giving a sense of reality to the thing especially when nobody found you. I climbed back on the train with good new memories and thoughts, but regrets for the old hotel

Why on earth did someone feel the need to invent forward facing chairlifts
