Poster: A snowHead

Hi, thanks so much in advance of any help! I'm managing to get myself very confused! I have recently moved out to live in the alps, am a good piste skier but pretty rubbish off piste and want to improve now I have the time to it! I'm after a pair of all mountain skis that will be good both on and off piste. I have a good piste ski rossingnol zenith 154cm which i love and will still use as well. In my local ski shop they recommended movement flairs 155cm but I like the sound of the k2 brightsides 160cm. Does anyone have experience of either ski or any other recommendation? I'm unsure about the length, the girl in shop thought 160cm was too tall for me, I'm 162cm tall, 64kg and skied prob about 30 weeks in total, (42 years old). Thanks again. Kathryn

Kathryn d, at 162cm I would have thought 160cm would be fine for you. I'm 155 cm and ski on 156 but they are twintips.

welcome to the mad house...
before you buy anything, does your local shop have them that you can try, whatever anyone says about any ski, you are the person skiing on it and your tastes will be different, try as many things as you can and make the decision based on first hand experience rather than "opinions" on an internet forum (can of worms well and truly opened) you might consider buying a car based on reviews but you would test drive it first to see if you like the driving position the handling etc.

Kathryn d,Welcome to snowheads. Are you anywhere near one of the indoor slopes? If you possibly can go along to the EB or S&R shop that will probably be there and try out a load of skis, another I'd suggest trying is the Armada TSTw as the men's version came out top of about a dozen all mountain skis I tried recently, but equally you could try the same 12 and rate it the worst! :

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Somehow I don't think a 'fridge' will be necessary!

Thanks for your advice so far! You are right that testing them for myself is the best thing to do. The largest and cheapest stockist of skis near me don't have any they can loan for testing unfortunately and they are generally a good 20% cheaper than the resort ski shops! Living in a ski resort means there are a fair few that rent skis out and give you the rental back if you end up buying but don't seem to let you try several pairs to compare (unless you pay for rental for each that is!). I'm not sure what's available to rent but will have a scout around to see if there's anything worth trying! Thanks again. Kathryn
