Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing in India

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Morning fellow Snowheaders....

I am moving to India in the new year and am wondering if any members have ever skied there? Or even if any live there at the moment?

The FCO have just updated their travel advice for the regions of Jammu and Kashmir so it is now safe(r) to go....well, at least your travel insurance will cover you!

I have done the usual Google (although other search engines are available) searches and found confusing and contradictory information, some of which is several years old. I am looking for any recent experiences....

Should make a change from Switzerland...(and yes I am taking my helmet)

Never even thought of skiing there ---- but, the Indian Tourist Office had a stall at the NEC this year, so they must be looking to promote this....

Yep powder skiing in Gulmarg in the Kashmir. A simple google search came up with these:

Remember it being discussed a year ago so try a forum search too. It does look interesting but a fairly old system if I remember rightly.

Skied in Manali some years ago, not up to what I have seen of kashmir (but less political unrest issues as well). No way comparable with European or skiing in the americas. Novelty value unless you have the deep pockets of a heliskiing powder hound.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

IIRC there was a good article in Whitelines Magazine about riding in India last season... May be of interest ...

Just be weary of scams, as there are a fair few dodgy sites out there.

Hurdy, there was another thread running about this a few weeks ago. Try using the search thing to find it. Quite a few good links on that page and a few other people that were interested in going out this season or next. Send me a PM if you are interested in skiing in that area as I might be going back myself quite soon. Very Happy
