Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

new skis - now what?

Having finally bitten the bullet, the new skis are nestling quietly in the wardrobe. The bindings were set in the shop, so am happy enough with that.

The skis are in still in their plastic wrap - yes they are THAT box fresh. My question is: Can I just clip in and whoosh off? (obviously will take the plastic wrap off first wink

Hoping answer is 'yes', as have read lots of, mostly confusing, stuff about detuning. Help!

No, sorry! wink

Well you can if you want, but get them waxed up properly and detune on the hill only if you feel they need it!

MarjMJ, Factory wax is usually good for a week in good conditions . . . ski 'em and send to Jon's ski tuning ready for the next trip. Detuning is only to be thought of if you're going to spend a week in the 'park'. If you're heading off soon in sharp winter you ill appreciate razor edges and they will soften off quite quickly. Just go and slide, if you feel uncomfortable and think they're grabbing, take them to a local shop and ask them to touch off the edge. If you like carving, leave-'em alone.

I had same issue and put the same question on here a few months ago. Majority vote was get em properly waxed. So I have and it cost me a total of £15. So for sake of a few quid, I would say wax em up.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Masque, Timbobaggins, snowHead You are wonderful. I won't be spending any more than 1 run in 'the park' and will ski the first week's wax off them and get them tarted up for the second week. Whew snowHead

EDIT: Oh and Gatecrasher - you are wonderful too. snowHead oops Embarassed
