Hi all,
I am about to buy my first set of skis. I am looking for some advice on what you think is best for a female 5’7 150 pounds intermediate piste skier. I would like a ski which isn’t aimed for beginners as, although I am not expert, I want to progress. Any specific ones you could recommend or any advice on what I should be looking/ questions to ask.
I want a good deal too so any advice on where to purchase them would be great.

If you're wanting the best price then you may be better waiting till the end of season sales, although this obviously won't work if you want them now. I would definitely recommend trying a range of skis before purchasing them. Shouldn't be too difficult to get some trials if you are near an indoor snow area as i know ellis brigham invite you to test before you buy...at least at my nearest indoor. Also i presume you already have a pair of ski boots...no point in getting skis if you don't have a set of boots that you feel comfortable with. As for specific recommendations, i am afraid i can't help you there..no idea about womens skis

CatBrighton, where do you ski/how do you get there/how often do you go? If the answer is abroad,fly,once or twice a year then the best deal is to be found renting.
If you buy new, you'll need bindings mounted, ski carriage and an edge and wax once a year, this is not a good deal.
If you drive/train/ferry to france or scotland or ski 3 times a year then it might well be worth the investment.
As Andy06, mentioned boots are far more important than skis. There is an expression floating around, something like, you'll marry your boots but only ever date your skis.

I'd say I was in a similar boat last year.
I did a lot of research and decided the Atomic Blackeye TI were right for me.
Then I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth buying your own skis unless you go skiing for over 2 weeks per year.

I am after them for a trip I am going in January  I left it a little late! I already have boots so I am ready to go. Thanks for the tip on testing them out on indoor ski area, I will enquire.

One more question! What length of skiis do you advise? I am a female 5’7 150 pounds intermediate piste skier and I have been sugguested 155-175. What would the difference be in these lengths of skis? Thanks

CatBrighton, sounds about the right range. Your better off testing them to see what feels right to you.
If a ski is rockered it will ski shorter as less of it is in contact with the snow, if it is twin tipped it will feel shorter still as even less of it will be in contact with the snow. To further muddy the water, ski manufacturers sometimes measure top to tail and sometimes measure the contactable edge!
As a very broad guide, if the ski is traditional camber you'll be looking at the shorter end of the range, rockered somewhere in the middle and twin tips toward the longer end of the scale.
At your height/weight if I was buying a black pearl or superburnin I'd be looking at around 165cm ish ski to offer a trade off between stability and being easy to turn. If your a lower intermediate I'd consider something around 158cm and if your edging toward advanced then 173cm ish.
Other people will have other ideas of course. If I were you I'd demo if at all possible.
Lets face it, this will be your first set of skis, you will love them! You'll learn with them, by them you'll learn what you like/don't like and the chances are you'll keep them a season or two before you get the urge to upgrade. Don't over think it just have fun.
