Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I think you are more likely to find this sort of thing in larger resorts such as Val d'Isere, which has lots (Alpine Experience or TopSki are good). Not many people ski off piste in the Haute Maurienne, which is its attraction.
Evolution 2 operate in several Tarrentaise resorts - they may do open groups but I'm not sure. Anyone know?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks Snowball! Just found this article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/snowandski/8996929/Off-piste-skiing-guide-best-resorts-and-guides.html), which includes your recommendations. More options welcome though.

Eyeopener, yes, those look like good choices in the article. I nearly mentioned Piste to Powder: they are good but a bit expensive.
The Val d'Isere groups (plus others there not mentioned) compete so keep their prices down. Alpine Experience are a more democratically organised break-away from Top Ski. Many of the guides are native English speakers and they attract an English-speaking clientele. TopSki attract more French speakers but their top group tends to be at a higher standard, which might matter if you like steeper slopes.
