Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Single skiing options

Hi all I'm new here so be gentle with me.

My dilemma is that I'm the only one in the family that desperately wants to ski.

Don't really want to go on my lonesome so was wondering if the collective had any ideas.

Clubs, organised tours etc

Greengrass,

you could join a group on here or ask if anyone fancies a trip at the same time.

another option would be to do a course offered by one of the many companies such as BASI , ICE, Skinewgen and TDC , SCGB or TDC to name but a few. The only issue with going as a single is the getting there part, you soon make friends on the course and your skiing comes on loads.

Greengrass,

You have a few options; you either beat your wife and children into submission, go on your own, or possibly even join a bash if you sanity is seriously challenged snowHead

Greengrass, Welcome to snowHeads There are many of us in exactly the same boat and you've come to the right place to find a solution wink
As well as other like minded people posting for ski buddies in this section of the forum, there are a number of organised trips too - we call them 'bashes'. The first of them - the PSB (pre-season bash) - starts this coming Saturday. Take a look in the snowEvents section of the site for the details. Sorry, I'm posting from a mobile device otherwise I'd post the links for you.

Beware though.... One bash is never enough... Your next problem will be trying to find enough cash/holiday entitlement to fit in the next.... And the next..... wink

Thanks for the responses, interested in the bashes or a spare small group place.

I,ve got 2 weeks leave available and it's burning a hole in me .

Totally flexible on dates and locations.

I'll check out the bashes.

Hi Greengrass,

If you don't mind travelling alone then we have some single rooms in our Chalet Campanules and we never make a supplement on these. We also offer no-single-supplement weeks in other properties too.

As an example, for dates coming up soon we could do 16-23rd Dec or 6-13th Jan for £399 for the week, no single supp and both week have other solo skiiers booked in.

Happy planning!
Heather

My wife and daughter are similarly ambivalent to the white stuff! I have been on an Action Outdoors solo traveller week and had a great time at UCPA Flaine. They offer 4 or 5 dates specifically targeted at solo skiers and have been prepared to take people older than the stated 40 upper age limit. I was 50 at the time and the age range was 20's to my age. Great food, tuition, kit and the accommodation was OK. It was also very reasonable. I would recommend it! Good luck!

Thanks for all your replies and ideas.

I've taken the plunge and plan to go on the pre-birthday bash.

Good thing I found the site early as I may even get a second trip in.

Greengrass, if you fancy a posher holiday than UCPA I think Cold Fusion (Cham or Morzine) is set up for singles although I'm not sure what the solo traveler vs actual single people mix is. I looked at going with them last year but the accommodation as a bit nicer and the price a bit higher than I wanted.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Thanks Kat.ryb, I'm hopefully sorted for the time being just awaiting my confirmation from Admin.

I'll have a closer look for the next trip.

Didn't realise there were so many options available.

 You know it makes sense.

I ski solo once or twice a year as I'm self employed my dates are flexible and would rather ski outside school holidays. Each time I ski with Mark warner who offer 4 1/2 days ski hosting and if you go to one of their adult only chalets like the Moris in Val d'isere you'll find that 80% of people (mostly males) are independent travellers anyway.
