Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Landhaus Eichenhof Saalbach?

Has anyone stayed at Landhaus Eichenhof Saalbach? I've booked small apartment for a week in mid jan (subject to free cancellation in next 30 days from booking.com) but cant find any reviews. I got a good deal so guessing its basic, but seems reasonable central. I'm not familiar with Saalbach so hope its ok. Any reassurances or advice greatly welcomed,

landers, the valley is excellent, and you've probably got a good deal by trading location against price. It is about a 10 minute walk into town, but there is a bus stop outside which should be OK for you as long as you avoid peak times, as the buses to Saalbach will be pretty full by the time they get to you. From their website it seems pretty standard - basic, but clean, functional and a reasonable size, and there are several good hotels nearby which will offer food and drink if you want to eat out.

If the buses are full, go the other way - the skiing is just as good from Hinterglemm, and the valley is well connected, so don't get too fixated on going to the nearest lift every day. Mid January is a quieter time, so you may not experience too many problems with crowds.

Thanks ousekjarr, reckon the location is a good compromise as you said. I might keep a look out for a nice pension though as we would prefer something smaller, family owned. I cant fully commit until a few health problems clear up but I need my ski fix and Saalbach sounds great.

landers, Location is maybe a bit far out if you're walking in ski boots, but if you hire in the resort (Hagleitner /SkiPro / Intersport/ Sport 2000 / Hansi's etc) you can usually leave your street shoes in the shop and leave your rental gear in the shop each night, so the walk home in street shoes is no problem. The ski bus runs every 20 mins between 09.00 and 17.00. Alternatively, taxis are cheap and plentiful - and are conveniently lined up outside all of the apres ski bars.
