Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

German equivalent of Snowheads?

I moved to Munich last year and would like to meet some ski buddies, can anyone recommend a German ski forum similar to Snowheads where I would be likely to meet some people to share lifts to the mountains? I have found Alpinforum.com, any others? I have some friends who are fair weather skiers but it looks like there is the possibility of a massive dump this weekend and I would really like to go skiing, where else could I meet similar obsessive types? I know there are bus trips and an international ski club etc. but they don't start until later in December or January, please help snowHead

lynseyf, Take a look at where Sport Scheck are going this weekend. Lots of the local radio stations are also running trips right now. Charivari were in Obertauern last week, so maybe Radio Gong , Radio NRG or Arabella are also running stuff. Antennae Bayern do trips once the season has started as do Bayern 3.

I'm off to Amadé I think but may possibly go to Tux when I see the proper forecast. I'm currently in France so accurate forecasts are not so easy to come by. Start back home tomorrow though.

lynseyf, Hmm, that seems overly optimistic for our side of the Alps! If it is Südföhn, we are in for Nebelmeer and shoite vis!

It's not snow specific, but you could probably rustle up a few people posting for ski buddies on the Munich Internations branch? - expats are always up for something with new people Shocked

I was up at Hintertux this weekend just gone and Stubai the weekend before. Both were excellent. With the snow forecast I think they will only get better and would be worth it even in bad visibility.

lynseyf, would have thought there would be lots of people from the EPO wanting to go skiing - right demographic. Don't know if they have ski club or similar where you could find ski buddies.

lynseyf, Use Toy Town if that kind of Ex-pat ghetto floats your boat or the GEA Munich ( meet in the Recthalerhof on a Friday).

Munich International Ski Club would also be a possibility, but seemed toBen's rub by loads of ex-military types when I investigated them!

DB, I have to go to Flachau on business, so Reiteralm could be a possibility I suppose.

Thanks, I don't work at the EPO, do you think I should just stand outside with some fat skis Smile

Have posted on Toytown but it seems a bit early for them, Munich International Ski club don't start until January, will check out GEA

I think it's just a bit early for most folk, I was at Hintertux earlier in the month and can get the train to Innsbruck for Stubai if the snow looks worth it.

lynseyf, like you say, it's a bit early. People in Munich tend not to go skiing until late Dec even if there are meters of powder on the mountains. Not sure why. It's the same as they tend not to go skiing after April 1st even if the conditions are fantastic!?!
I went with the GEA a few times, but the people there just ended up getting on my nerves so I stopped doing it. I'm a bit restricted myself these days given that I have small children and a small ( getting bigger every day ) dog!

It's the Rechtaler Hof btw! Arnulfstraße 10. Right by the Hauptbahnhof.

most TGR posters are fat middle aged men so don't worry about your ski standard! actually Snow for the Euros is a really friendly and useful thread (provided you don't come across as a complete moron) so worth subscribing to even if you ignore the rest of the noise. there is a contingent of German/Austrian posters on there

That still exists? I was a member back in the 1980's and then it was very much (though by no means entirely) based around the US military. I don't think there are any Ami military based in Munich now but maybe the club still has a base of ex-military who have "gone native" (I didn't recognise any of the faces on their web site). Good fun at the time.

Can't generally offer any transport, lynseyf, but if you're ever down Fieberbrunn/Kitzbühel way, I'd be happy to meet up (time permitting).
