Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Advice on Nursery Slopes for kids in Val Claret, Tignes

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi, wondering if anyone can give me some info on the nursery slopes for kids (age 3 & 5) in Val Claret, Tignes, as in what do they consist of and where exactly are they in Val Claret? Have been looking on the web but very little info available. I know some exist and from what i can gather other areas in Tignes / Val D'Isere may have more extensive nursery slopes, but would be fab to get a bit more info on this. I guess if they are limited the ski school would take you on the bus to Tignes Le Lac? Thanks in advance!

If the rug rats are absolute beginners put them with the specialist kids ski schoos (Marmottons or ESF Piou Piou - I think thats the name). They have dedicated snow gardens - completely segregated and have the magic carpet lifts. There is also a drag lift under the Tufs Chair with a piste segregated by a snow bank from the main piste. The only other beginners piste is the main run back into town served by the Bollin lift which is uber busy.

Other than that its off to Lac for the Rosset chair - which has no foot rests so can be a little tiring but the piste is segregated or to Lavachet for the drag lift and the Lavachet gardens piste. The dedicated snow gardens are repeated in Lac.

There are no nursery slopes in Val Claret, so it is a bus ride to Le Lac.

Here's the nursery slope:

It has always amazed me that the above nursery slope is next to the run off from a black run.

hillmad, the snow garden for the marmottons / pandas or what ever is on the other side- you can just see the hut I think it is to the right of the gondola in the picutre above.

In January it is Be Nice please! freezing with next to no sun.

Thanks v much that's all really helpful, and particular thanks for the picture....have skied before in Tignes and that's reminded me of the layout...agree its interesting to have black next to nursery slopes but on the plus side if you're an adult you get to have a whizz down as well as catching a glimpse of what spritelets are up to Wink

Having learned in Tignes as a complete beginner (though far from a rugrat Very Happy ) I would agree that the beginner slope in Val Claret, accessed from the Bollin free lift, would be somewhat hairy at busy times. In fact seven years on and confident on any pisted slope I still find the chicanes at the end of that run uncomfortable when it's crowded.

In le Lac I would say that the Lavachet slope is the one for complete beginners with Rosset as the first step up. Rosset is actually graded blue and like others I spent a fair amount of my first week looking enviously across to the last pitch of Trolles thinking that I could never possibly get to do that.
