Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I have been looking at some of the deals I am seeing on line from likes of sport pursuit and others for jackets. However I tend to suffer from the cold especial if I am not on the move (ie on chair lifts etc). I was wondering if there is a way of finding out how warm a jacket will be from any specs? I would actually rather feel a bit warm while skiing than get too cold while on lifts. I could just not buy anything online (which is what I have done in the past) but just wondering if I have missed something obvious?

, I will be the first of many to say the answer is layers! I wouldn't buy a jacket online, not so much because of wondering "how warm" but because I find I have to try on quite a few to find one really comfortable and a good fit. Same applies to trousers. That has generally meant TK Maxx, or a sale in Go Sport or Decathlon, or similar. Make sure you have room for several thin layers and a fleece gilet.
Have a go at T K Maxx in Waterlooville. Filarinskis in Bosham might also have some deals - someone wrote about that in the last week or so. If budget is very tight you might find they have some ex-hire. I got ex-hire Colombia salopettes for £10 which did 3 seasons.
Aldi in Havant had some cheap ones but they looked a bit rubbish, I thought, a bit "shiny". Not as good as my £50 Trespass from T K Maxx that lasted years!
There are some outlets worth looking at in Port Solent too - or at least, there were. I've not been there for a few years.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

, same as pam really, the other give away is what the insulation in the jacket is, if its down 700g fill then it will be pretty warm, if its just a shell jacket then they usually have no insulation, I say usually as some shell jackets have

I do layers as well but I particularly like having a really snug warm jacket
Thanks both for replies I will stick with my normal method of purchase then thanks again.
