So my big boss just asked me where he should look for a really nice ski hotel over New Year. He's flying his family over from the US and money really will be no object. I'm planning to point him in the direction of the relevant resorts' tourist offices and if that doesn't work maybe somewhere like Scott Dunn. Any other suggestions apart from expedia?
Not really looking for specific hotel suggestions (unless you know of somewhere very nice which has room for a family of 5 over new year!) - more good online resources to get him started
I'm slightly at a loss because I always avoid skiing at New Year and never stay in pricey hotels when I am skiing, but he seems to think I am the guru of all things to do with skiing in yurp...

Probably cos you're always bunking off for skiing....
Can't you just point him at some classy joints in Verbier & Zermatt or the Albert 1er in Chamonix. Job done.

Do you know about the skiing level of the family? What are the ages of the children? Do they need beginner areas? Do they ski often in Europe? Are they looking for authentic charm or miles of skiing and not caring much about the charm of the resort?
Sorry for all the questions but it might focus things if there was a bit more information. We have skied in a number of places but know Zermatt best. If that met his general criteria, I could certainly point you in the direction of a few places to test his budget!

scotsgirl, Zermatt, Verbier, St Moritz, Val d'Isere and Lech are candidates. All good skiers, although Mrs Big Boss is a bit more timid than her husband/sons
Thanks for individual hotel suggestions but I think he wants to plug his dates into a website and see what comes out rather than be chasing around individual hotels

Jeepers, I hope your everyday challenges are a little more straightforward.
Does he know what to expect from European (vs Yurpan) skiing?
Kids want santa and all rimmings or nightclubs and hangovers?
I would suspect he's also looking for a sneaky steeer on where to go rather than just where to look (I believe they have a special simplified Expedia for Merkins)

Ok, well so far as Zermatt is concerned, the website for the local tourist office is www.zermatt.ch . This lists all the hotels and availability. However, if that resort were of interest, and the website was coming up with no availability, it might still be worth contacting any hotels he liked the look of directly. The website doesn't always keep wholly up to date if there have been cancellations for example. Here's hoping he takes you along as thanks for all your help!

scotsgirl,
You can stay in hotels anywhere in the world - why not show him europe in the european way? Catered luxury chalets in France is a different option.
Fly to Geneve and be picked up by the Chatel service.

You are right, chalets are of course an option- the post specifically mentioned hotels, that's the only reason I responded as I did!
