Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bindings - Tyrolia Vs Marker

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I've recently bought some new skis which come fitted with Tyrolia Peak 12 bindings. I've never skiied Tyrolia bindings before and they seem fine however, i've heard some bad reviews about these bindings. I have some Marker M11.0 Free bindings which have never been mounted and I could these use as an alternative but I wonder whether there is really much difference?

I will be mainly using these for skiing park (but i'm only a beginner freestyle skiier!) and my DIN setting is 6.0.

Can anyone advise which binding would be better and whether it is going to be worth the effort to remove the Tyrolia's and mount the Markers?

Thanks

Katie Smiler, I've got the slightly beefier Tyrolia peak 15's on a pair of my ski's and they are absolutely bomb-proof. Probably the best alpine bindings I've had. I can't imagine the peak 12's will be that much different, although I know they have a lighter-weight heel piece, and for your DIN setting should be plenty reliable.

On the other hand I previously had a pair of Marker m11's on an old pair of ski's and they are very much at the budget end of the spectrum. They never felt that reliable and while they took a load of punishment and never broke on me I always thought they felt a bit cheap.

Until you've skied they Peak's I'd leave them on there. There's no point re-drilling the ski. If you use them and don't like them then by all means reconsider but remember that by drilling them you will take a little of the skis strength away which seems pointless as you may already have a decent set-up on there.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'd pick the Peaks every time over the M11's, especially for park use as the biometric toe piece could release unnecessarily if you took a tip first landing that you'd ordinarily ski out of.
