Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

office trip of 16 in Villars or Megève ??

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there

This is for an office weekend ski trip - we do one each year and I have been landed with the thankless task of organising this years.

SkiWeekends have come up with 2 trips that fit our needs to either Villars and a 4* hotel or to Megève and a 2* hotel. I am not a regular skier and dont know anything about these resorts but the SkiWeekend guy sounds competent and I am keen to go with them.

Faced with this choice is there a strong opinion one way or the other among those on the forum who have been to these resorts that could help me make my decision.

Thanks in advance.

Scott.

Which month? Snowfall may be an issue with Megeve.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

ScottDougall,

Both are low villages, Megeve at around 1100 and Villars at 1300, I believe. I only know of Villars on reputation and is not as frequented by Brits as it used to be. Megeve is a stylish French village, attractive and not all about skiing. even if the village is full the slopes aren't likely to be. Skiing is mainly nice crusing pistes through the trees although the skiing does top out at about 2400 plus. If you are mobile there are other options on the valley pass.

I get the impression that Villars is more of the same skiwise, just a bit lower top station. I would go no later than early Mar if it were me. Possibly the 4* would make me plump for Villars but if the hotels were equal I would chose Megeve.

I had fun in Megeve when I was there. I remember the bars tended to be a big more cozy than some of the other larger resorts I have been to. Skiing was also good. You would have fun in Megeve, can't speak much about Villars, although a large group may find a greater variety of things to do in a larger resort like Val D'Isere.
