Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lodging and excusions from Lech, Austria

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looks like we're settling on a February trip to Lech. We'll be flying to Zurich and taking the shuttle up on a Saturday for a 7 night stay. There are several pensions with available space in our price range but does anyone have any specific recommendations? Ideally we'd be close enough to the main village to walk there after skiing for apres-ski and dinner.

Also we're going to try to get around to a few other villages to sample the slopes, at least one day to St Anton. Anything we shouldn't miss? We're going to try to arrange at least one day of touring - does anyone have local guide and/or tour recommendations?

Is it feasible for a day trip to Munich during the week on our one non-skiing day?

It would be a bit of a treck to try and do Munich and back in a day. You'd spend much of your time travelling. Maybe Innsbruck would be a better City option?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You're right, Innsbruck seems like a much more reasonable day excursion.

yad, Innsbruck is an easy and relatively inexpensive day trip by train from St Anton.

As regards lodgings............. had you thought of staying in Stuben? the only reason I suggest this is that from Stuben it's easy access into St Anton via the lift system, and from Stuben free bus into Lech or Zurs again accessing the skiing with ease. You may just find Stuben has better prices and options.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

skimastaaah,

I would say that Stuben is out on a limb as discussed in another thread about Stuben.

I'm not sure where YAD (the original poster) is thinking of in Lech.

Lech I suspect is quite pricey as regards restaurants. Lech is a very stylish resort, it's where Princess Di used to go skiing.

Even getting to Innsbruck from Lech would take at least 2-3 hours. Bus from Lech to St Anton and then train to Innsbruck I'm not sure why you would do that after spending so much on getting to Lech to ski.

It is not nessesary to travel to St.Anton from Lech.
Train station Langen am Arlberg is just 5 minutes drive from Stuben. Total travel time from Lech to Innsbruck with bus (number 90) and train (just 1,20 minutes) is max 2 h.

We've got our travel, lodging, and lift tickets in under budget so I'm not worried about the cost of meals. That's why we have jobs, right? Smile

We're OK with taking 1.5 hours in the morning and again in the evening, it's a full day excursion.

OK, plane tickets to Zurich are purchased. Smile

Looks like there are train and bus options for getting up to Lech/St Anton. Any recommendations or benefits of one over the other?

Think the train is direct to the region from Zurich - just check if it stops at Langen am Arlberg as this is the closest station. Saturdays can be very busy on the roads (although I've not used Zurich as an airport to get to the Arlberg yet) and the trains are very comfortable. I'd opt for the train as I've heard it's a doddle from Zurich and the roads can be very busy at peak times

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

arlbergexpress bus for me to Lech (if their times suit) as it's door to door and saves the faff of changing at L-am-A

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I'd agree with that. I looked at doing the train transfers a short while ago and I concluded 2 hours (ish).

 You know it makes sense.

OK, looks like the pension is taken care of now as well.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good off piste guide service? And would it make more sense to bring our avy gear or rent there for the day or two we use them?
