Poster: A snowHead

The New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance (NZSIA) has recently rolled out its new International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA) Card qualification for ski teaching.
The qualification includes completion of the NZSIA Trainers Cert Course and Exam along with completion of the ISIA test technique (GS speed test) and ISIA Avalanche Safety course. The Card certification is to be offered in addition to the ISIA stamp certification already in place.
The NZSIA successfully ran the first southern hemisphere speed test in September 2012 and the test and results have been validated as an official event by ISIA.
Further details on the NZSIA certification process can be found at

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi,
7 of 17 achieved the standard. This first test was only open to our existing examiners holding ISIA stamp and our Trainers Certification qualification so a reasonably high standard of skier.

7 out of 17 is a high pass rate.
What was the margin? Where was the course set? How many gates?

Hi,
Thanks for your queries and interest. The speed test was a GS run to ISIA standards (ie full FIS set) and audited on the day by ISIA. You can down load the rules for the ISIA speed test from their website and this will clarify to you the margins etc. Held at Cardrona Alpine resort.
The first test was only open to NZSIA examiners so a high standard of skier took part. Of the 7 who passed 4 are current or ex. demo team, and 2 others had previously passed euro test (when it was a SL). I would imagine when we open it up to all members pass rate will look a little different.

[quote="NZSIA"] Ta for that, it will indeed be interesting to see how it pans out when you open it up to your members. I guess the focus will change somewhat for candidates coming through training to accommodate the new test. Chur
