Poster: A snowHead
|
Looking to ski at Tamworth in the next week or so.
Going there with my 9 year old god-daughter for her first experience of skiing. She's going skiing in Austria in February and I won't be able to go with her (working on Hokkaido).
Will I be chucked off the slope if I'm teaching her to ski?
Thanks in advance.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

almost certainly, as even if you have an instructors license you are not employed by tamworth so will not be covered by their insurance.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks.
That's a real shame.
Does that apply for her dad teaching her too?

It's against the rules so if they spot you teaching may be, plus to go on the slope as a recreational skier you need to sign to say (and you'd need to sign on her behalf) you can ski up to the recreational standard which is basically being able to get down the main slope on your own, under control and without damaging yourself or anyone else. I'd guess you'd be in deep if heaven forbid she caused an accident where someone was hurt as I assume getting that signature is something to do with their liabilty insurance.
I'd also guess with it being half term the slope will be pretty busy with official lessons so a high chance you will be spotted and also loads people skiing for fun as well so maybe not the best time to be trying to hide a lesson on the slope.
Yep it would apply to dad as well as it is for the protection of everyone else using the slope as much as her.
On the flip side the kids and me have learnt there and have never had a poor instructor so how about booking her in for a lesson or two? Learn on the ice of Tamworth and nothing in the mountains will phase her!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Many thanks for the lightning responses.
Very much appreciated.
The plan was for me to spend time with her and teach her at the same time.
Will have to wait to ski with her in the mountains.

You'll need to Register first of course.

Given you're a proper instructor worth a call to see if they allow visiting instructors like Hemel do. Can't see it would be economically efficent for a couple of hours though.

It's a shame more of these places don't have a public qualified visiting instructor policy......
From http://www.snowdome.co.uk/plan-your-visit/faqs/#can-teach-friends
it says:
Can I teach my friends / family to ski?
Unfortunately not. Due to health and safety requirements we cannot allow members of the public to teach. They would need to take lessons with one of our qualified instructors, see the Learning To Ski section or the Learning To Snowboard section for details on lessons at the SnowDome.
