Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Save Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre!

Some of you may already be aware that Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre is under threat. It's on Bassingbourn Barracks, and as the army is closing the barracks next year we need to find alternative access arrangements to keep the club open. The club is working hard to try and find a way of continuing to operate the slope - we may be able to stay if we can sort out our own access and utilities - but to be successful we need support from as many people as possible.

We need to build our case to people who up till now may have never visited our site but are in a position to influence our future. We need testimonials from as many people as possible to help prove that ours is a club worth saving. We also need photos showing what a vibrant and active place we are with people learning new skills, challenging themselves or just meeting up and having fun.

You can upload your messages of support, photos, videos and anything else you think may help to our new Facebook page at SaveBassingbournSnowsportsCentre. Please also pass the message on, the more supporters we can get the better.

If Facebook isn't your thing then you can email your testimonials and pictures to sos@skibass.org and we will gather them all together. You can of course write in too (Save Our Slope, PO Box 103, Royston, Herts, SG8 9ZN) but we can more easily use things in electronic format.

In the meantime, all activities will continue as usual, and the club is looking forward to welcoming as many as possible to its open day on Sunday 4th November. It a fantastic, friendly club with a long tradition of supporting grassroots skiing, boarding, and tobogganing parties. Please help us save our club!

It really is a case of if 20 people pass on to another 20 and so on.

It's looking pretty grim for Bass at the moment with the DIO announced closure of the camp for access for the on site clubs as being end of March with no return to site allowed.

DIO have even gone as far as to say if you haven't cleared all of your kits and that means everything you want to keep it will be disposed of as the DIO see fit, so that could mean bulldozing the club house and workshops and scrapping the matting and lifts.

At Waterbeach camp the DIO bull dozed a perfectly good facility used by the community and filled in the swimming pool with rubble, its an approach that is final.

The Club is looking for support from various MP's and emails and letters have been sent.

Now the DIO are answerable and cannot ignore a question put to them via an MP in houses of Parliament so that is another tack being taken.

This little slope had over 14,000 customers last year and takes care of schools - groups for the disadvantaged - special needs - and young offender groups where the aim is to try and turn around a young life and learning a new skill is viewed as part of that process.

All of the above is done at a price believed low enough to encourage as many as possible to give the sport a try.

I know that any help however small would be appreciated by the Club and the skiing community in general.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've traveled through time! Ten years have passed, and this hill is still there. I am looking for a similar place...
