mountainaddict, They've had the clause for years, I last flew with them in 2005. I didn't have one and it was OK but I think they wouldn't accept responsibility for any damage.

Don't those hard cases use the lock to hold them closed? If so, I thought airport security usually frown upon locked cases. No clue if the "TSA locks" (ie combination locks that can be opened by security guys with an override key) are any use either within US or outside? or do they just get out the bolt croppers anyway?

I flew last new yeah with AC and had 2 soft ski bags - no issues.

I think AC tried to make me sign a waiver once if my skis got damaged in my regular ski bag. I crossed out key elements and added words to the effect that it was only being signed under protest and the girl gave up IIRC.
