Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Appartments in Val Thorens

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Mrs H and I are considering self-catering in Val Thorens for the second week of Easter, we've been to VT a couple of times before - but half board at the Portillo. Anybody have recommendations for appartments for two (and tour operators thereof)?

Ian Hopkinson, if you like the Portillo, you could consider their self-catering apartments.

Are you looking for cheap & cheerful or for something a bit more upmarket? My favourite for combination of quality and position (that I've stayed in) are the apartments in the Village Montana but the Montagnettes are also supposed to be good and the Oxalys is supposed to be the best.

At the cheaper end of the scale, the relatively basic Olympiades has, I believe, been refurbished for this season and is perfectly positioned in the centre opposite the sports centre.

Village Montana, Olympiades and the Montagnettes appear in many TO brochures. L'Oxalys you might have to book direct.

I can heartily reccomend Oxalys although I always thought the Swimming pool could be warmer wink The service and staff are excellent, always pre-book their own underground car park. Spaces are first come first served.
Montagnettes are also excellent but check out proximity to the piste, some involve a short walk! In January we are staying in Montagnetes opposite Pro neigne office which is a short slide to thepiste and 3 doors down from the bakery! Very Happy

We booked direct this year, but previously with Erna Low before who really are as good as everyone says they are and I suspect are as cheap as booking direct Very Happy

boredsurfin, sounds like the Montagnettes you're staying in must be almost next door to the Village Montana?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Alastair, It's literally next to the ramp down to the piste. Very Happy

Thanks chaps - this is why I like snowHeads - personalised service within half an hour! snowHead

Alastair, good question. Would like reasonable quiet, TV and bath and the feeling that the place wasn't on its last legs but aren't bothered about upmarket add-ons, if you see what I mean. I think the thing I'm worried about is high cost for only having occupancy of 2.

boredsurfin, did you do flights+transfers with Erna Low as well - if so how, were they? Looks like L'Oxalys is already booked out for that in week in the 2/3 person appartments Shocked

Ian Hopkinson, I don't think you would be disappointed by the Village Montana - although one of the buildings has a terrace which can produce a bit of noise during the daytime. (Not that it'll matter in the daytime!) It's pretty good value, IIRC.

Ian, I always drive over! so no! Try ringing Oxalys direct. Often Erna Low like all TO's are only selling their allocation of rooms. details are here.

Booked Village Montana through www.expedia.co.uk ... www.iglu.com were rather more expensive mainly because of high under occupancy charge.
