Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

carroz, I had exactly the same experience, and after some frustration with the non-answering of their UK phone line, cancelled the order.

There's a thread on heated ski boot bags which records other experiences - spud had a different bag delivered very quickly, I think.

I have since tried to order the Atomic bag (as the Head one was out of stock) and found it completely impossible. Despite trying 3 different, perfectly OK, credit cards, none of the orders went through. Maybe I am now blacklisted, having moaned about them on Snowheads (because the bag I originally ordered was noted as being in stock for immediate delivery, but then wasn't).

I even phoned Nationwide to check there was nothing wrong with my card - as the girl who answered their helpline advised. They assured me it was OK, but the firm could do nothing when I rang back - just said they had to guard against fraud. rolling eyes So I have given up.

pam w, Thanks....The items i ordered were noted as in stock....and all are now not........seems a bit odd, but I used a credit card so have some comeback if it does not arrive.

Just had a read of that thread and seems they do this reasonably commonly...will wait and see.

I ordered a ski bag from them, it said it was in stock but wasn't. They emailed me saying this and I asked for a refund, which came so I think they are fairly trustworthy. They must like creating more work for themselves! Smile Also their stuff seems reasonably priced.

Please be aware, they are based in Spain. They choose to use a 'UK' phone number but dig deeper and you will find they are most definitely not UK based! Why they choose to do that, I will leave others to decide. All I can say as an Independent UK ski shop, if you still would like to have the option of independent UK ski shops and specialist boot fitters in the future, spend in the UK, with the reassurance of a full warranty that will be serviced by the UK distributors, and your order being shipped in the same country you are ordering from Smile

We have also had to help a few customers with setting up skis correctly due to bindings either not being set up correctly, or not on the skis! And some transit damage to sort out too. In all cases might not be SnowInns fault, but they are not too nearby to sort things out if they go adrift.

I don't like to throw stones, as we are only human and make mistakes ourselves, but are right here in Blighty to do something about it when we do not get things 100% to our customer's satisfaction.

The pricing won't continue either, as the brands themselves are very unhappy with the situation, as dealers in the UK and other countries who have stocked showrooms and are hiring staff and taking time to train them cannot then sell products at near zero margins.

Bet they have better weather than us though!

scottydog, I understand your side to the argument but the prices in this country are getting ridiculous so its no wonder people are going abroad looking for deals snowin are selling atomic tracker for £225 delivered this country £320 not delivered postage extra £100 is a big tempation 30% cheaper now yeah the sometimes they get it wrong but so do other shops.Much as I would like to shop in this country you just don't get bargains anymore and its not just skiing either were pricing has gone mental mountain biking is crazy also.

I like spud bought a one of the heated boot bag thingamiggy doo dahs. Ordered and paid, had a tracking email within 48 hours. My only order with them and all is fine and dandy from my point of view. I would usually buy from a UK outlet for exactly the reasons you mention scottydog, but I managed to spend less with snowinn than in the UK shops. Buying skis/boots/bindings at a distance would have been a much more difficult decision though, no matter what the price.

I have an order outstanding which showed in stock, when I placed it earlier this week it then confirmed expected delivery 11th November, have taken the money so will wait and see, not happy but if they fulfil the order by mid November it'll be OK, just wish they'd me more upfront. I have no problem dealing with suppliers abroad, I use Sport Conrad and Boarder Stuff for much of my gear, as far as I am concerned Europe is one big market place, UK shops/ online businesses can have my hard-earned if they are competitive but if not then they'll lose out, simple market economics.

I used them for a pair of ski boots that no one else had in stock and after confirming they had them in stock I got an email 2 weeks later to say they were not available but they were coming in 'in the next few weeks' , not to worry as it was summer (mid June)so I was happy to wait. Then about 2 weeks ago they called me to say they were still waiting, still no problem from me. Then the boots arrived and they were clearly ex demo, sides scuffed, foot plates a little worn which is no big deal but they are not new!

I called them up and they plain didn't believe me and said if I had a problem with them I could send them back for inspection (at my cost to Spain - £38!!) but they wouldn't offer me my money back, I said I was entitled under the distance selling act to send them back and receive a full refund and that's when they told me that as they were not a UK company, they didn't need to give me my money back and if I wanted to send them back, it would be at my cost and if they found I was wrong then I had to pay delivery back to me again, all very annoying and a little underhand IMO.

I just cannot be bothered to fight it out with them and it's my fault for not doing any research on the company but it's a poor show to sell me used boots and pass them off as new then refuse to offer a refund. The UK phone number threw me and I thought they were a British company but they're not so I basically have no come back, I checked to see if I could do a C/C charge back but as the goods were delivered and signed for they are not interested.

Nothing I can do and a lesson learned but I wouldn't use them again and the way they treated me was well dodgy Evil or Very Mad

davidhammy, bindings I got from them were either pretty scuffed in transit or ex-demo. Wrote them an email with photo's attached and they refunded me 25% (£20 of £85) you could try this instead. I basically said; paid for new goods, new goods not received, can't be bothered with sending hassle etc. so would like a partial refund to save postage costs and keep both sides happy. They were pretty good about it all and sent £20 back via paypal a few hours later.

it was all going so well.

finally got the heated bag out of the box. I have to say its bigger and heavier than i was expectong seems very well made.

plugged it in, little light comes on and i wander to get a cup of coffee.

several hours later, light is still on, but not very brightly and not a jot of heat from the elements.

just plugged it into car lighter socket to see if that works.

this could get interesting.

Snowinn seem to have an associated group of other shops, I was looking for some cycling stuff and they had good prices at Bikeinn. Getting mixed comments about them if you Google them, so not sure now after seeing this thread.

Although (by necessity I guess) they have a UK phone number, imo they are being deliberatately evasive by not saying exactly who and where they are. If they were really good, I'd expect them to be shouting that from the rooftops Puzzled

o/t where's the best place on the forum to ask about beginner's skis please ? - I only joined a while ago.

I ordered BCA float with Snowinn as cheapest I could find on the net.

It was stated to be in stock on website and delivery within 5 days.

2 weeks later still no arrival. I called and they told me it would arrive within a few days. A few days later , nada.

I contacted them again and they told me they wouldnt have the item in stock until end of November - almost 2 months after ordered.

Decided to cancel as fly out to alps before then and reordered with surfdome. Item arrived in 2 days....happy days!

Not a great experience with Snowinn.

Sounds like a worse version of the old 'appears to be in stock, until you read the disclaimers and small print, or the confirmation email' trick.

Fallen foul of that one with a cycle retailer. Very small print stock notice on the product page, disappears when you go to purchase page, doesn't appear on the checkout page and its only when you get the email and read the small print, that you discover 'Available to order' can actually mean anything from being sent tommorrow, to being weeks away.

Idiotic business practice - it gets around the net quickly, especially when there's grumpy folks like me around wink

Shame if they've actually got good prices - no need for it at all.

Just as a side note, I noticed this 'customer feedback' advertised on their site, supposedly from Brett from Australia......

"I live in Australia and did a order a order from this store. I found it very easy to use, great feedback on my order with items that where in stock and what needed backorder and when would be in stock. Great tracking of order, great delivery time. Could not fault this store. Will use again. Highly recommend. Brett"

Even allowing for our Antipodean cousins loose grasp of English, if that was written by a native English speaker then I'm a monkeys uncle! Puzzled

Snowinns attempt at reviewing their own site is almost as effective as their ability to get me my gear without it being damaged. .........poor, poor company on the make and the old addage if it sounds too good to be true then it is applies here.

Thanks for your concern, they are in usable condition but not brand new, far from it but what do you do? I am not that interested in having an internet war with them so I put it down to experience and moved on (sob, sob, cry).

It is hellish to try to sort out a problem with a company not based over here, I used a CC and thought they could help but they could do nothing as the goods were delivered and I signed for them....

Pain in the backside but never mind, they are not the devil, they are just VERY naughty boys! rolling eyes

As we're on the subject of shops, I've got a question about what shops to look in for skis.

I used to hire skis (or "borrow" !) and thought I'd buy some. A friend said look for previous year skis being sold off, but my problem is trying to get a list of the main ski shops here in UK. They'll be beginners skis as I'm not going to be doing the Winter Olympics any time soon. Been nosing around the net and found ski sales - looksl ike a work in progress - surely there are more retailers ?

So I've got this list so far:

EDge and wax
Snow and rock
Ellis Brigham
Snowinn (cough,cough)
Surfdome ? not best named
Blue Tomato ..erm... ? !
Simply Piste

Also is it very risky perhaps looking at Ebay ?

Thanks for any extra shops...

+1 Recommended - First time I thought they were UK based, then realised they were in Spain which caused some initial concern.

But I've now used them a couple of times and they have good prices, delivery times are quick (and fully tracked), also when I have called their UK number it was answered quickly by somebody who spoke good English and they dealt with my query quickly.

PS Apologies for digging up and old thread Smile actually came across whilst Googling for Snowinn.

I have dealt with them (insofar as I have ordered an item from them). I ordered an item listed as "In Stock," on a Friday, and it arrived the next Tuesday exactly as expected.

From what I understand, it is best to avoid ordering items listed as "5 days" or the like. You should only order "In Stock" items.

Last year, I bought k2 touring skis, which were about £100 less than elsewhere. Shown as in stock but no dispatch.Emailed twice over a period of weeks, initially told they were on order, then that the skis were "broken" and had to re-ordered from the supplier. Eventually dispatched, they arrived badly packaged though luckily not damaged.

They looked new, and they ski well,
But not the most pleasant shopping experience and I wouldn't use them again.

The Atomic Redster FIS Heated bootbag (big enough to get the kids boots in as well with luck) I ordered on 26th Feb finally shipped on Monday despite being listed as in stock when I ordered then out of stock once the order went through. Have had various stories and out and out lies from them (twice told it was now in stock a week before they finally got it) over the time since order. It currently seems to be doing a tour of Europe, last tracked in Germany yesterday. Will report back on the quality of goods once it arrives.
