Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

'The Independent' appoints a new ski correspondent ...

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
... Hamish McRae, who succeeds Stephen Wood (who, we're told will continue to contribute ski pieces).

Here's Hamish McRae's opening shot, taking a European and Transatlantic look at the choices of ski destinations this winter, and how to have a successful holiday: Snow Go!

Any views on Hamish's first crack?

Yes, it's very good. Honest, sensible and balanced.

Is he a snowHead by any chance.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

In his favour :-

1. No links to commercial organisations.

2. It does not seem to be a cut and paste job.

3. He is not bragging about what an expert skier he is, or the off-piste adventures he goes on, or the great restaurants he eats in.

4. He is open-minded about Eastern Europe, which many would consider beneath them.

5. The point about cover on DIY trips, as opposed to package trips set me thinking. I always thought credit card bookings and sound insurance took care of most things.

On the other hand, he lays great importance on 'fun' . To some snowheads, who do not regard skiing as a 'holiday', that may ring alarm bells.

The man may even like an occasional lie-in of a morning.

I note that a Hamish McRae has a piece in today's Independent on Angela Merkel.

Is this the same man ?

If yes, then he clearly has another string to his bow- especially as it is one of the on-line articles the Independent charge for.

I cannot think of other ski journalists who multi-task in this way.

It should be cost-effective for The Independent , they can send him off to Austria, France, Italy to interview politicians and while he is there he can knock out a ski piece for the weekend.

He appears to be a spectacle-wearing, middle-aged man with a look of gravitas about him.

They may want a different photo for the ski stuff.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Probably a correspondent - ie freelancer - so happy to sell in whatever the editors want.
