Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Audis with ALL seasons tyres

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
A colleague of mine has taken delivery of a A4 today and it has ALL season tyres as standard. With effect from October he claims it is legal to use them in Europe as a winter tyre from October.
Anybody know if this is correct?

The only all season tyres that qualify as winter tyres should have a snowflake symbol on the sidewall of the tyre or the letters M & S ( mud and snow ).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yup as long as the tyres have the snowflake in a mountain ( triangle ) symbol

I use Vredestein Quatrac 3 all seasons, keep em on all year round and they are legal in places where winter tyres are compulsory

Timbo I think the snowflake is some EU thingy, so if you buy some linglong all season ditchfinders they might have m & s but no snowflake afaik.

I think Audi use Continental as OEM fit, so should have snowflake if they're good for 4 seasons use.

I have used Kumho all season tyres on several cars.

They have the snowflake sign on them and are pretty good in snow. Instead of zero traction in very cold and snowy conditions they are pretty good. Maybe not as good as pure winter tyres but miles better than summer tyres.

Obviously still need snow chains.

Jerby, So what tyres are actually fitted? People can then look them up and check the specs as to whether do comply with the (various) rules.

Boredsurfing, Can't see anything there which indicates a tyres' suitability (or not) for winter. It's all about fuel economy, wet braking performance, and noise.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

RobW, Don't worry, Boredsurfing, doesn't know anything, he'd get stuck in a puddle in Tesco's car park with what he drives. wink Laughing

Just look for the Snowflake symbol.
