Manaslu avalanches a lot.
They were trying to climb and ski it without oxygen.
Looks like Plake made it through.
Several others still missing.

ChrisWo, yeah, very sobering.

Plake filed the following graphic account with EpicTV:
Greg and I were in a tent together, Rémy was in another. It was 4:45 a.m. and I was in my sleeping bag with my headlamp on reading my devotional when we heard a roar. Greg looked at me and said, "That was a big gust of wind," then a second later, "No, that was an avalanche."
Then it hit us.
I was swept 300 meters over a serac and down the mountain and came to a stop still in my sleeping bag, still inside the tent. We all went to sleep with avalanche transceivers on so I punched my way out of the tent and started searching.
Searched for 10 minutes when I realized I was barefoot.
Greg was using my down suit for a pillow and I found my suit, I found everything that was in my tent – camera, sleeping bag, ski boots, it was like someone had thrown my gear in the back of a pickup – but there was no sign of Greg. Rémy and his tent are nowhere to be found. |

Can't believe we were only discussing the skiing of Remy Lecluse on here a few days ago and now he's one of the missing... hope there's a miracle to be heard here

Oh no, very, very sad. Remy is (probably was) a lovely guy and one of my two all-time favourite guides to ski with. I was thinking about hiring him again, only a few days ago. Somehow when you know someone involved news like this becomes quite different.

I skied with Remy for a week some years ago and I totally agree. It's also sad of course for all involved.
With respect to the person that started this thread, I wonder if the mods might change the header to something that gives a better indication of what it is about? I understand that there are three Chamonix guides involved and I feel sure that a lot more Snowheads would want to be aware about this.

That's all pretty grim and sobering.
Have there been any updates on Greg and Remy? If they were all wearing transceivers, I would have thought they would have been located by now?

snowball, agree, the news goes from sad to horrific when you know someone personally. I recall skiing with Remy and him balling at a member of the group who was stood under a large serac taking photos. She thought she knew more than he did, that misconception didn't last long, he took control of the situation very quickly.
Guess it shows us all again even experienced, knowledgable guides get caught up in lethal situations in the environment we all enjoy.

Remy and Greg now officially considered lost, presumed dead. RIP Remy.

I have just spoken with my friend Sue and we shared our grief at the loss of Remy. We have skied with him, not at the level of Snowball and some of you others, but ever my face lights up when I think of him. He has skied the fiercest most extreme of descents and yet would give respect to the likes of us and turn a holiday into the experience of a lifetime . To have known and skied with him is a privilege to be treasured , with his memory.
