Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

family group of 30 christmass 2013

I am looking for somewhere for a week over Christmas 2013 for a large family group of 30+ ages 7-77. The oldies don't ski any more so they would like to join us for lunch every day ideally not just coming up a ski lift but including sleigh rides and gentle walks. The ski area doesn't need to be huge as meeting up would be difficult, but we want to be as snow sure as possible with some interesting skiing. I am thinking tobogganing, log fires cosy mountain huts and chocolate box villages. I think Switzerland is out unless the Swiss franc drops 50%. So Austria is probably the best option though I am open to suggestions. We will probably travel independently but would also consider a package. Any bright ideas?

Austria and Switzerland would of course match some of your criterias but I would definitely not discount France. There are quite a lot of resorts which have what you describe. Have a look at Le Grand Bornand, Valloire, Les Houches, Aussois or even Notre-Dame de Bellecombe. Snow record in these resorts is not like Val Thorens wink but it is normally fine for X-Mas week - has been for a few years anyhow. We feature accommodation there but maybe not what you are looking for. You have a bit of time to do your research though. Should be good prices for the week of 21/12/13 - the week after will be expensive though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

BertieG, you don't say what you are after in terms of accom types but if hotels are an option the Tirolerhof in Ehrwald could be worth a look. I am massively biased as it’s a property we feature but it is a pretty village, lots for non skiers and the hotel has huge rooms and a fantastic spa and pool. Skiing goes up to 2,900 on the nearby glacier.

More info here, do drop me a line if you want some detailed info re rooms and prices.

ctskifam, Most of the children are teenagers and good skiers. Erwald looks great but more orientated towards little ones.
XPeak, I haven't ruled out France or Italy and would welcome suggestions for a group of 30.

The first place that sprang to mind was Alpbach, which I have never been to, but the skiing looks a bit limited.
The best place I have researched so far is Nassfeld where I have been offered a good deal at a chalet that will fit us all. The skiing looks great too.
I rather fancied Murren, but as I feared, is too expensive.
We a looking at the Christmas week, which can often be uncrowded, not new year. Probably a bit early for the Monte Rosa area.
At least I've got plenty of time!
